i find it more offensive when ignorant americans who think theyre being all hip and urban and worldy pretend like they have any possible aptitude for learning bits of another culture...my main pet peeve is people insisting on using chopsticks to eat asian food, when they are often eating some cheapened american version of asian food to begin with and wouldnt dream of ever actually eating real asian food, learning the culture, or visiting the continent. i dont know why this bothers me so much.
anyway, im guessing (and partly hoping) that it isnt offensive or degrading for these women to have american names, and instead allows them to retain a private stash of pride...in that, it sure as hell beats some dumbass coming in and butchering their names fifty times a day, mumbling under their breath about the inpronuncability, or christening them some other name on their own.
then again, it would kind of piss me off to think that people werent willing to make the effort to learn to pronounce my name, but expected me to trim their fucking nails for them.
then again, its kind of irritating that a few dumbass americans ruin it for all...i mean do we have a reputation of being culturally insensitive nitwits? i mean, we do have a history of it, but cant a people change????
damn the man i say too. i'm just wondering if i am the man in this case. me thinks i should just shut up and trim my own nails. i like that we let the same things bother us. i think you're me. you should come here.
i AM coming there. and youre going somewhere else. perhaps the planets are not properly aligned. perhaps the world is not ready for the sonic boom we will create upon meeting.
or, perhaps its thanksgiving and youre going home to see your folks. and i am the only insane daughter who would agree on a post-turkey bus trip to nyc.
oh, and if you sent me email today i cant get it cause the mail is down.
i've short on e-mail time again. no surprise i would guess. do you really think there would be a sonic boom? maybe just a little boom. it sucks i'm missing you. when are you here again?
