Ouch

My laptop battery indicator just bounced directly from 30% remaining to 0% remaining.

I really don't want to have to deal with a fried battery :(

I'll do that tonight and tomorrow when I'm not working. It's been a while since I let it run totally out more than once in a row.

Apparently I'm at around 39% total capacity (as compared to original capacity), which is down from 45% last night when I happened to check. 6% is a lot to lose in 10 hours.

Like 36 months? It's got around 550 cycles on it I think.

I wonder if this could somehow be related to the sudden drain, but my Apple-branded power cord died last night rather suddenly so I swapped it out for my old Macally (the one I had thought last year may have been implicated in the death of my iBook).

While I know I'll need a new battery sooner rather than later, I'm curious if the Macally charger is in any way responsible.

I think I got the new cord right before my iBook finally gave up the ghost last year, so it's maybe 6 months of use? I'm not surprised, though; the branded ones are notoriously shitty.

Right before it died, I'd noticed the charger getting quite hot right where it connects to the machine, though I guess that was probably just a symptom that it was about to die.
