The geeks I was weaned on are exceptionally high-functioning, which makes being in a room full of true nerds sort of startling.
What made me think of this? I went with aaronstj to the xkcd geohashing thing yesterday.
We met up with a large group of really stereotypical geeks at the Hale's Ale Brewery; we may have tried to fit all of us in an old phone booth on the way out and we may or may not have been subsequently asked to leave. We definitely did some trespassing to hit the geohashing spot, and that was fun.
My take-away thought after the event: I think I assume that xkcd is a lot more accessible than it really is.
