• once again, anti-immigration racism hour took over washington journal this morning. when i was driving to work i was thinking about it, and immigration is an issue that i honestly do not have a stance on. i'm not against it, but i also don't know the best way to make it work for people who want to emigrate to the us, people who are already here illegally, and us citizens. i don't know how i would, considering i don't know anything about immigration law to begin with (i mean when i think immigration i think ellis island, which is seriously behind the times.) but, i guess the difference between me and the crazy ignorance and racism that runs rampant when this issue is discussed is that i ADMIT i'm ignorant. maybe if i lived in the southwest, or maybe if i worked in an industry where my job could be threatened, i would be more up in arms. i don't know.
• something totally unimportant that DOES bother me is atlanta's lack of a good blog. philly has a million (including uwishunu.com, which i have recently been into), dc technically has wonkette, which i love like my unborn child and will flog til the day i die even though they made fun of me, i don't even know where to start on new york, and those are the only cities i care about so fuck you. JUST KIDDING !! atlanta does have atlbloggers.net, which isn't terrible, but also doesn't pull me in with a tractor beam to read it. kissatlanta is also good, but only if you're really into electro. so where's the website with clubs, with free open bars, with restaurant reviews, with record stores, with ways to get involved in the community, with secret good things that make atlanta different from everywhere else? i mean i guess for me to love it as much as i love the ones i mentioned, it would have to have ads and sponsors and shit like that, but i have to believe that it is possible !
• john lewis has been making one minute speeches every day in the house about ending the war in iraq. maybe he should have voted on the iraq war funding bill. he is also mentioned 2 million times in howard zinn's sncc book.
• speaking of books, i got class action by clara bingham and another lady at the library yesterday, which is the book that north country was based on. i honestly can't watch movies without reading the books they are based on. i also watched dreamland last night. it was kind of weird, but i really loved john corbett's character and dialogue. "there's a fine line between losing it and getting it." "what does that mean?" "i don't know, i just made it up."
• more glimpses into what my life is like: my mom just called to tell me about how she's been surfing myspace and can't read my page because it's private, so she went to megan's and saw my latest comment with the bill maher rahm emanuel video. we then talked about emanuel lookin' tired, and then talked about photos where bush makes himself look dumb, and then dick cheney. i wonder what it's like to grow up in a family where you're not always talking to each other about government and politics and totally superficial stuff like congressmen looking tired.
