Things Making Me Happy This Week 1.29

Jan 29, 2013 20:06

It's been a while since I posted one of these and I know it's not Monday, but so what? Who cares? *tugs shirt*

This past weekend was super productive! To start, I made a big batch of sauce:

(yes, this is an old pic!)

I got some better temporary curtains up in the bedroom until I can get fabric ordered and sent to my mother in law for more permanent curtains. They made the tiny room seem bigger- it's great! This means I was finally able to move a couple of curtains into the guest bedroom where Gordon's clothes are which means he won't be putting on a show for the neighbors twice a day anymore. It's a pro-cess.

Speaking of, my mother in law made us our shower curtain, so that's up and it looks fantastic!! She's working on the valence and I'm working on a few finishing touches and then I'll be ready to share the bathroom in it's finished state!

The biggest deal for us- we bought a new mattress! This is incredibly exciting since we're sleeping on a decade-old mattress and neither of us have ever bought a new one. We're turning into full-fledged adults, here. Eek. After quizzing people on Facebook about where to go for one, the overwhelming response was Jordan's. Since we just had a great experience buying a sofa there, we had no problem going back. After doing this odd test to show our pressure points, the sales guy showed us a few different mattresses. Naturally, we chose the firmest one in the store. We went with a Beautyrest; pricey, but Gordon and I both feel it'll be worth the expense. It's being delivered on Friday and I CAN'T. WAIT.

This means we've got a bed for when my friends come to visit in a few weeks!! I cannot stress enough just how excited I am about that! We will eat, maybe craft and definitely play with makeup because our friend Meg is coming with her Mary Kay stuff. Woo!

I've also finished my PPNF project!! I know- the suspense is KILLING you, right?? Well, fear not, dear readers, for Alison, Lauren, Julia and I will all reveal our projects this Friday!

I've been feeling pretty crafty lately, too and it's been great! I finished one little project that I'll tell you about in a few days (once the recipient has gotten it) and I've been wanting to do more. I used some of my growing washi tape collection to wrap this gift for our nephew a couple weeks back:

It was his birthday and I realized I didn't have any birthday wrapping paper- all I had was this blue paper. I knew I could jazz it up, but didn't go too crazy, because after all, he's 6 and won't care all that much about the wrapping.

In random news, I am a new convert to brussels sprouts. I never ever liked them, because I'd only had them boiled- MEH. But a couple years back at Christmas, my brother in law roasted some and hey- I liked them! I had kind of forgotten about them until recently and had them with a couple of meals out. I decided to buy some last weekend and made some tonight. I roasted them with just a little bacon fat (I know, but damn) and salt and pepper and they were SO good. Husband doesn't know what he's missing.

I'm also excited to be going back to Book Club this week! It's been months since I've been able to make it and I was determined this time, so I'm taking the commuter rail down to Dedham. You see, since we started book club, EVERYONE has moved out of the city. This makes it hard for me. But I am getting myself to Sarah's tomorrow night! I even baked a treat! The best part is that I got the book on my brand new iPad! It's been my first e-reader experience. Ok, but I think I still prefer to hold a book. It feels weird.

Gordon and I hosted a successful housewarming party a few weeks ago, but guess who was too busy to take and pics?? *sigh* We had a lot of fun and it was fun to be able to share the place with our friends, even though it's far from being "finished." For the party, we changed the set-up of the living room to be closer to the permanent set-up that we want. It's been in this "temporary" set-up since we moved in because we have a corner tv stand unit for the tv and all the various components and it was easier to put it in the corner near the closest cable hook up! We want to get the tv mounted on the wall and rotate the couch 90 degrees so the room feels more open. This past weekend, Gordon moved everything to where we want it in anticipation of our friend Jason helping us mount the tv next week. It's such a relief- the room feels so much more open this way! Now, just another 4-6 weeks til that new sofa gets here...

Every day feels better and better in this house. We're really making it a home! I've got a long-awaited finished project to share with you all tomorrow.
