Girls' Weekend (in April)

I told you I was catching up!

In April I had the pleasure of hosting my sister-in-law Nicole and my sister-in-law to be, Lauriel, for the weekend. I had suggested they come out to hang since I have a hard time getting home and it might be fun for them to get out of town for a weekend. I've never really gotten to spend a lot of time with either of them, so this was really nice! Lauriel officially joins our family in a mere three weeks!

Naturally, I took no pictures. Because why capture moments and preserve memories? Ugh. I really need to get better at this.

Nicole and Lauriel arrived Saturday morning and we promptly made our way around the corner for mani-pedis. Nicole ended up buying this amazing shade of bright blue-green. I had the massage feature going on the chair and it would cycle through this one part that made my lady parts do the shimmy. Lauriel had a hard time talking to me during these moments. I don't blame her. After we were all colorful, we headed to Sofra, which is on the corner of my street. I had my beloved spinach falafel with beet tzatziki.

It was a beautiful day, so we all walked to Harvard Square via Brattle Street so I could show them the big beautiful houses of Tory Row. In Harvard Sq, Nicole and Lauriel officially made the oddest purchases: Nicole picked up a backpack hanger from Black Ink and Lauriel got a giant rubber duckie from The Curious George Store. See? Random.

We wanted to take Lauriel out to celebrate, so that evening we got all nice and dressed up and headed to this great restaurant in Cambridge called Temple Bar. I went to Temple Bar in March for Restaurant Week and it was delicious. We didn't arrive til after 8pm, but it still ended up being a long wait. No problem- we'll wait at the bar! Wow, well, several drinks later, we were all drunk. A good kind of drunk, though.

I had the Sea Scallops with Risotto (YUM) and I believe Nicole and Lauriel both had the Short Ribs. I'm sorry, I meant Shor Tribs. (The font on the menu made it look like that and therefore, that's what we called them.)

Too full for dessert, we walked through Harvard Sq to Charlie's Kitchen for a drink where we ended up in a long conversation with this guy who was sitting at the bar. I don't remember much, but I do remember that by the time we left, Nicole had him completely confused at to what our names were. He was convinced there was no Amanda. We got home and loudly recalled the evening's events to a sober Gordon and passed out soon after.

The next morning, the three of us headed over to a favorite of the Bedfords', Uncommon Grounds. We had a long delicious breakfast. Nicole and Lauriel got on the road after we got home.

I had a really nice time with my sisters-in-law. I've never had sisters and I enjoy having someone to talk to who understands my crazy family. My brothers and I might not be close, but they both chose wonderful life partners and I hope I can be close to them! I really hope they can came back sooner rather than later! Nicole and Lauriel, you know my door's always open!
