Nono Nanami crouched down on the step, carefully outlining the circle in chalk with one hand and trying hastily to wipe away the falling snow with the other. Although the freezing snow gathered inside the open doorway of her home and despite the fact that she wore nothing but her home slippers, a pair of jeans and a comfortable, shapeless cream jumper, she could not help but hear the hammer of her heart in her chest.

It was that same hammering tempo that drove her on to sketch out the details she had copied from the book the round faced young man had showed her during the confrontation with Gajah and Chronos. Though she doubted the young man's reading of events, she couldn't help but feel that the mysterious figure that had passed it into his possession was somewhat beyond reproach.

AkaRed, as the other had identified himself, had carried with him an aura of familiarity that it was difficult to deny. Not only had talking to him been, at times, like talking with Yousuke and, at other times, like speaking with Shishi-san, but there had been something else in the way he had acted, something that she hadn't been able to identify at the time and, when she had, months later, it had brought her to tears.

It was only, after all this time that she realised that AkaRed, through some inexplicable and unforeseen twist of fate, had been Shurikenger. She couldn't explain how she knew but, by the same token of faith, there was no way in which she could deny this.

Though there had undeniably been something of Yousuke in him, not only in his personality but in the colour of his uniform and the style of his moves, she knew that behind the masque, behind the uniform, was the same, unnamed man who had helped them in their struggle with Jakanja five years ago.

And so she had taken the details outlined in the book seriously. Without that connection she would have doubted them, as surely as she had doubted the round faced boy, but knowing somehow that Shurikenger was still with them, she could not help but have faith.

With a smile of satisfaction, she lifted the chalk from the pavement and nodded appreciatively, reflecting that it wasn't bad for a first attempt, especially as she had had no prior experience with drawing magic circles.

All her life she had relied on skill, training and the resourcefulness of her body and the talents of her friends. To find herself now using a magic circle to summon down a near-mythical figure of whom she might request a Christmas wish seemed a little absurd.

But the book insisted the ritual be carried through and her doubts in Shurikenger's methods had long since been overcome. If Shurikenger was in possession of a book that spoke of magic circles and Christmas angels, then who was she to argue? It wasn't, after all, like she had planted a giant karakuri powered mammoth machine that responded to the call of a shamisen beneath Tokyo City.

She closed her eyes, made her wish and waited.

Moments passed and nothing happened. She waited longer still and then, after a time, she opened one eye.

With a gasp she fell backwards inside the doorway, throwing her arms out to steady herself a moment too late.

Niiiice, Nanami, she thought to herself. Where was all that ninja training and idol grace now?

Standing on the doorstep was a woman roughly her own age, her slender frame wrapped up in a dress of red and white with heavy boots and a Christmas hat pulled down over a fringe of dark hair that caused her ears to stick out slightly.

"You forgot the final part of the wish!" She chided lightly, puffing out her cheeks.

Nanami blinked.

"I'm sorry but...who are you?" She asked, feeling awkward and ungraceful sat at an angle on the welcome mat of her home.

The woman twirled her wrist, pointed a single finger up at the sky and winked. Slowly, Nanami's eyes followed the line of her finger and she saw a single star blink happily away in the sky.

"I'm your Christmas angel, Eve!" She answered.

"Oh." Nanami said flatly. "For some strange reason, I was imagined someone more..."

Eve pouted again and Nanami laughed quickly, backtracking as she said:

"But you're really a very cute Christmas angel, Eve-san."

Appeased the other woman smiled broadly.

"That's good. Considering my already cuteness and amicability, I'm sure you won't mind if I just tie the last loose end of your spell."

Nanami frowned slightly.

"Ah, no, not all at...sorry for causing you trouble." She remarked, uncertain as to what she was really apologising and wondering if this was all some elaborate joke staged by Shurikenger; the kind of joke that was only amusing to dead Hayate Way ninjas, perhaps.

She opened her mouth to ask Eve a further question and the self-proclaimed Christmas angel lunged forwards, pushing her lips hard against Nanami's and knocking her backwards onto the floor.

For a moment they lay tangled in the doorway of the house and then, ever so gently, Eve lifted her lips and smiled at the blushing woman beneath.

"Consider your wish granted!" The angel
