She looked down at the display of the phone, her eyes clouded by tears.
'You're annoying. Die.'
Three words, repeated over and over again, until they filled the screen with such completeness that Shizuka could only feel numb in response. There was no anger or sorrow in her decision, just the quiet shadow of inevitability.
It would have been easy to mistake the sensation for determination if she had been possessed of any real will to drive forwards with her plan. Instead she was simply like detritus upon the raging waves of some dark stream; her body limp and carried along by the course of the events shaped by the words on the screen.
A small, lonely smile crossed her face, lips upturned against the falling tears.
'You're annoying' had been the same words Saki had mouthed after there first kiss. There had been none of the cold callousness that possessed her then, simply the taste of her lips, still warmed by sugar and sweets, and her long fingers wrapped in the folds of Shizuka's hair.
She had smiled, ruffling Shizuka's hair and whispering those same words with a smile and a giggle.
Her eyes turned back towards the screen and she shivered despite the warmth of the sunlight upon her back.
Quietly she dropped the phone back into her pocket and allowed herself to be carried further into the shadow of inevitability.
