writish_icons the only decent webpages i can access from work are news websites. and so, i've been reading a lot of articles. here are some that i thought i'd share, just for the lulz:
FANGIRL INVASION - the war of the sexes hits geekdom: seriously, don't let the twilighters color the statistics. i like the saga and all, but the point of obsession of some people is ridiculous. don't take it out on the rest of us normal female fans.
NASA's new astronauts: call them the 'chumps': LOLOLOL i love the name. nothing beats "the sardines," though. xDDD
knuckle-cracking gets (ig) nobel prize: the ig nobels are just the bomb. truly. obama who? ;)
mars rover FAQ: the martian lives of spirit and opportunity: the mars rovers are seriously just the cutest things. i wish i could have one as a pet. i will absolutely cry if either of them ever dies, i love them... ♥
the all-time top 10 list of best-- and worst-- mothers in comics: entertaining list. though i concur with the 1473922920347 or so commenters that mention that mystique should be on the worst moms list-- she probably would've made #1 on mine.
france bow out with revenge over austria: ok, so they're not quite in the world cup yet, but at least they're not sucking. yaaaaay! =3
top 10 ways to destroy earth: pay close attention, future megalomaniacal villains. xD i happen to be very fond of #10, actually.
in other news... okay, so as my cable company cleverly (/sarcasm) decided to take the food network out of their analog lineup, i find myself drifting in television limbo around the time i'm supposed to go to bed (i normally put FN on with the TV on mute. if i tune in to any other channel, i'll inevitably find myself staying up to watch whatever show is on and therefore end up behaving like a zombie all through the following workday). anyway, yesterday being a friday, i decided i could afford putting the disney channel on as i went to bed. and just my luck, i happened to catch the tail end of the wizards of waverly place movie.
now, this shouldn't be weird at all; if you've been on my flist long enough, you know that disney channel and disney in general are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. the funny thing, though, is that i have never seen even one episode of WoWP. i honestly didn't even know it was airing on DCL until i caught the movie on. but the thing is i did watch about the last 45 minutes and i thought it was pretty darn good... at least by disney channel standards. the acting is better than DC average, the cast has good chemistry and the plot, while cheesy, was very heartfelt. even not knowing anything about the show except the fact that it's about... wizards who, um... live in waverly place (wherever that is), i found myself really into it; so much that i immediately rushed to find a torrent of it. now compare that to the hannah montana movie, which i still haven't seen even more than a month after the DVD came out, even though i love HM.
sometimes i want to smack the shipper in me with a shovel, though. if you've seen the WoWP movie, you cannot deny it almost comes across as a love story between justin and alex. no, seriously, it does. david and selena have amazing chemistry and it just oozes out of the screen-- which is something i think the disney folk wouldn't want to encourage but can't really stop. i would totally ship the two characters in any other circumstance... except i'm not unprejudiced enough to get past the incest thing. it just squicks me (think peter/claire from heroes-- it's obvious they have crazy chemistry and are absolutely cute together, but they're related and so i can't ever bring myself to say i actually ship them-- i kinda ship them, but not really). and considering this is a disney show, like for kids, the squick factor increases a hundred-fold.
so of course now i find myself going "WELL CRAP, LOOKS LIKE I'M GONNA HAVE TO SHIP DAVE/SELENA IN RL NOW."
>.<
i'm always reluctant to ship real-life couples, especially celebrities-- it always feels silly, you know, because they're real people and their lives are private, DUH, not to mention that relationships between celebrities so rarely seem to last and when one is invested in them emotionally, the heartbreak is double than with fictional characters. jesse/jen being an exception, because darn, i can't help myself with those two... but now it seems i'm gonna have to add dave/selena to the "can't help myself" list because it's 2 AM here and what am i doing?... saving dave/selena icons/pics and reading dave/selena RPF.
RPF. WTF. >.< i told myself i wouldn't ever read RPF-- nothing wrong with the people that write it, but i find it a bit disrespectful, to be honest. but pfffft, guess i can't be a hypocrite anymore now. ¬_¬ i blame their prettyfulness: i think selena is such a gorgeous girl, and david is absolutely H-O-T (and not jailbait! so nothing wrong with me liking him). and really, is it my fault they're so ridiculously cute?! (i love that vid, BTW. i laugh my ass off every time i rewatch it. they're hilarious! xD)
anyway, stepping away from my RL shipping woes... all this disney channel stuff has made me think about... well, disney channel stars ^^;;; i was catching up on the spoilers over at the oliver/lilly forum and it came to my attention that team-selena-vs-team-miley is almost as big as the edward-vs-jacob thing, and that suddenly everybody out there loves taylor swift. that led me to what do i actually think of each of the new disney tween starlets that seem to be popping out of the woodwork these days.
hilary duff: i loved her in lizzie mcguire, that much is true. however, i think she's a better popstar than she's an actress. her songs are catchy, i think she should stick to that-- i like how she's grown up into her own image, at least. she seems very real and stable.
lindsay lohan: i don't like her. i think she's a better actress than hilary, and i've liked a few of her movies, but she's such a mess. she's a lot more about the hype than about the talent.
hayden panettiere: pfff, i love her. she's the cheerleader, dude. xD
brenda song: i think she's funny, but she's been cast in all the crappy roles. seriously, braindead airheads can only get her so far. she ought to break away from the disney image really soon. she's been at it since... wow, forever. first time i saw her was in get a clue alongside lindsay lohan and that was ages ago. she really needs to get away and do her own thing.
vanessa hudgens: i liked her enough in HSM and i've liked a few of her songs, but i don't really think much about her, not really. at times when i see her being interviewed and such, she comes across a bit fake. and her acting isn't all that great.
ashley tisdale: i liked her as sharpay, but i don't care for her as a singer. she sounds like a reject from alvin & the chipmunks, seriously. ^^;;;
miley cyrus: i like her, though i don't think her acting's all that great. she tends to overact. i quite like her as a singer, though, her voice is very unique and her songs are catchy (the climb gives me goosebumps every time i listen to it). she seems to be a bit too extroverted in her personal life, i guess... i would tell her not to wish to grow up too fast, but perhaps she's just the type of person that puts it all out in the open for the world to see. it's not necessarily a bad thing.
emily osment: i love her. i think she's gorgeous, she's obviously smart, and she has a dry sense of humor that i just adore. she seems to have a good head on her shoulders, and i expect her to succeed at whatever she chooses to do in the future. HM was a good start, but she can to further, i think.
selena gomez: i think she is absolutely gorgeous, one of the most naturally beautiful girls i've ever seen (seriously, if ashley greene hadn't already taken the title of my one official girlcrush, it would be selena). also, i think she's the best actress out of all the disney channel girls. this girl can really act. and her personal life seems to be pretty stable, so i hope she'll make the right decisions to help her own career move forward.
demi lovato: to be honest, i don't get the hype. i don't think she's pretty at all, her acting's really mediocre and while i like a few of her songs, she also tends to yell a lot while singing, which bugs me a lot. i don't hate her or anything, but i don't care for her. and the one episode i watched of her new show wasn't funny at all, so no incentive there. at least hannah montana manages to be funny even if the plotlines for the episodes are stupid overall.
if there's any tween starlet i've forgotten about that you'd like to know my opinion on, let me know =)
PS: i haven't gotten around to writing anything in a while. and now i'm tragically behind on my manga reading. eh. lack of internets at work sucks too damn much. ;____;
