My daughter decided that she had an April Fools joke played on her by a mouse.
K's job is to feed and take care of the dogs. Yesterday was a busy day, I had her feed the dogs early while we were home between school and ballet. The dog's food is in a storage bin in the garage. Her brother was also asleep in the car in the garage. I told her she needed to be very quiet while she was in the garage so she wouldn't wake up her brother. She went to go feed the dogs and the next thing I heard was a blood curdling scream, followed by another and K running in bawling, while I was running out to get her quiet.
What was the problem?
There was a mouse in the dog food bin. Alive. Jumping all over the place.
I calmed her down, checked to make sure A was still sleeping and checked out the situation. There was a small field mouse desperately trying to jump out of the bin. I had K look at it. I told her it was scared and it wouldn't hurt her. Then told her it was just like the mice at the pet store - that made her feel better. I grabbed the dog bowls and caught the mouse between them. Then we carried it over to the neighbors unkept side yard and let the poor thing go into the long grass under their trailer.
We went back into the house and scrubbed our hands and the dog food bowls with very hot soapy water. Because, although the mouse wouldn't hurt her, it could make her sick. Then she went and finished feeding the dogs.
We left for ballet and K was now telling me that the mouse had played an April's Fools joke on her. I guess it did. I hope that was the only mouse in the garage.
