I am unbelievably in love with life right now. In less than a month, I start at GMU for pre-med. I finally realized a while ago that I don't want a school; I just want an education. I want to go it alone and just do what needs to be done.
I love this city-spread-to-town-spead-to-suburbia-spead-to-mountains. I remember some time ago Laura and I went driving west with nothing but a couple of maps that we'd picked up at rest stop information centers in West Virginia and Maryland. We ended up finding a park in the Appalachians in Maryland, which contained the "Washington Monument" (a different one from the one in DC). This particular Washington Monument was a pretty short tower atop a mountain. The view from the base, while somewhat impressive, was dwarfed by the panorama from the top of the tower. It felt like the top of the world. We decided on the way home to go to the hookah bar and digest the day. I love that such different types of beauty exist within such close proximity of each other.
I love to dance. I love driving to Tennlytown every Sunday morning to dance in a room full of bright-eyed women. I'm now at the point where taking one belly dancing class a week isn't enough. I'm kind of glad I have a handful of classes to make up so I can stack them on top of each other and get my fill before the month long break before fall classes.
I love having aquired a physical awareness that I remember vividly not having last fall. I remember lying in a bathtub of warm water, trying to orient myself in that womb-cocoon and overcome the panic attacks and nightmares that I was having for a while. Ultimately, the inspiration of wise words and the desire to choose to get better, along with a healthy diet and daily exercise, were my saving graces.
I've been on the biggest pho kick ever lately; I've been eating it 3 or 4 times a week. There's something about the lasting taste of ginger, basil, Sriracha hot sauce, squeeze of lime, in a broth that just keeps me satisfied for hours. Just thinking about it, my mouth is watering. I need to find a 24 hour pho restaurant for my weird middle of the night cravings. There has to be one around here somewhere.
Quite accidentally, I've been very sober most of the time this past month. With Laura having been in France until yesterday and Will as my company most of the time, I rarely smoked, and I drank only a few times. I haven't noticed much difference other than a slightly more clear head in the mornings upon waking. Laura only smoked once in France, so I doubt we'll be back at our daily smoking habits any time soon.
Schools starting soon anyway. It's just as well.
