However, when it comes to what parties stand for, they are far from the same. Ultimately, the Republican party stance contains a whole lot of things I consider plain immoral. And while I don't agree with everything in the Democrat party stance, most of it is stuff I consider just or right.
The biggest problem with the two party system right now is that both parties have their backs up so strongly and are so unwilling to compromise that nothing gets done. This is on the shoulders of Congress mostly, not on the president. People tend to think of the president as the one with the power, but when it comes to making laws it is Congress that has the power. And they seem completely incapable of compromising. This is both parties, though the Republicans are worse at least right now. This has gotten more and more of a problem over the last few decades and has reached a point where compromise just doesn't happen at all.

I'm not trying to say that what the Democrats present as ideals is wrong, or what the Republicans present as ideals is right. Quite the opposite. I'm with you on thinking that the Republican party stance is overall immoral, and most of the stuff in Democrat's ideals is right and just.
This is not an anti-Democrat post.
