I have been given the go-ahead by my thesis advisor, one very friendly art history professor. She speaks in a very deliberate way, perhaps typical of a foreign-born, non-native English speaker, and her accent is quite delicate and generally nice, as accents tend to go. Nonetheless, hearing her speak makes me tense, b/c she almost always is the bearer of bad news in some way. Be it "this topic has been done," or "there are very few Latin American collections in the U.S.," she always makes me kinda cringe with "What now?" It's even gotten to a point that watching Project Runway speeds up my heartrate because I can't hear "Nee-nah Gah-see-ya" criticize the designers without thinking of this professor's voice. Eek.
