This weekend was interesting (sorta).
Friday I just stayed in and watched Waterloo Bridge. I got this cool box set called Forbidden Hollywood which has 3 pre-code films from the 30's in it. They include prostitution, women sleeping their way to the top, and a 1 second flash of Jean Harlow's booby! Scandalous! The hair and fashions are amazing. The item to have back then was a fur wrap. Im talking about the fur wraps with the animals head still attached! Some of the wraps even had legs. It was kinda creepy and beautiful at the same time. This is pre PETA era fashion of course. ;-)
Saturday my AC decided to conk out. It must have been 95 degrees in my apartment. I just dealt with it until my friends picked me up to go to SF. The conversation was hilarious as we discussed everything from the music of the Police to the effects of Axe body spray. We went to Pop Roxx at the DNA lounge. It was the last night it was goin on so I wanted to check it out. The flyer said electronic, mod, rock etc..which sounded good to me, PLUS Popscene was upstairs. Welll....it turned out to be uber-electronic heavy. And Popscene was playing the same crap upstairs! I was hoping to hear some classic Britpop which is what they played back in the late 90's when I use to go. But there was no Pulp, no Blur, no Pizzacato 5...*sigh* The crowd was diverse and interesting to watch though. I think I would have liked it better if the music was good.
Sunday I just stayed out of the house to avoid the heat. Had lunch with James, hung out with DAve at his studio while he worked on his Nosferatu painting, and went to a BBQ. At the BBQ my crazy but adorable friend AT made and ate a turkey/blue cheese burger-regular burger w cheese- bacon- sausage-lettuce-mayonaise burger all at once! It was the highlight of the BBQ to watch him eat that. :-P
In geek news...the new Star Trek movie is set to be released in May 2009. I cannot WAIT!! Check out Zachary Quinto as young Spock:
