I had a good relax. It was productive - not in the look-at-all-the-things-I've-done-variety but here-are-all-the-things-I've-thought kind.
I read several books. It was nice to finish a few for a change and I've been very strict about not adding more books to my bedside pile till its at least half the size. This means that I've not made vast inroads into my Aurealis reading but that I feel more relaxed about reading in general. However, finishing books means they now go on the To Review pile which is starting to pile up. I have decided that I need to diversify what is in that pile - Juliet Marillier was saying something to that effect the other week and gave an example of nice broadly diverse selection. I think in part that's been my trouble with my pile - I was so intent on making nice indents into the what-we-need-reviewed-at-ASif! list that I took away all the other books. There's only so much genre reading I can do in one go or one period and I think that sorta slowed down my entire progress (guilt associated with reading outside genre etc). This is nice since I looked at my own reading pile for ASif! - it's um, maybe a five year goal? There's like 40 books there.
So.. new rule is to make sure there is a variety of reading beside my bed but not too much variety (ie not that many books in the queue). To wit, I started a Michael Connely book and its surprisingly enjoyable and light and I'm whipping through it - ahhhh for the break in genre. Need to add some Nonfiction and I guess a classic at some point. I need to be okay with not everything I read needing to be reviewed for ASif! And ASif! just taking that little bit extra time to hit the 500 review mark (we're currently approaching 200 if you are interested).
So that was change number 1.
