Book delivery day and synchronicity

Wednesday I finally managed to get to my post office box. It feels weird after it being the regular detour on the way home every day to only make it once a week or once a fortnight! I kinda hate not knowing what mail has arrived. On the other hand, whenever I go now, I get to stagger out with a huge pile of parcels and ephemera. In this batch, all ( Read more... )

I never really thought I was very Knitting Geeky - I don't really feel immersed enough in it all but then, yeah I guess I'm getting there.
When I try fair isle or intarsia, we know i've fallen in - come get me

Fair Isle is _really_ easy, and I am not a fan of fiddly stitches.

Really? I think i could never get past the idea of carrying the yarn across the back, always seemed really messy to me. But I hear its a really warm jumper

it is definitely a really warm jumper.
... I found that if I chose a repeating pattern with lots of little sections, not having to carry the yarn more than 2 sts didn't set off my OCD. Patterns with more than that I knit as reversable... which is really close to how you knit 2 socks at once. (which is how I'm knitting my crimescene scarf)

Which would be great to have - a warm jumper - but it doesn't really get that cold here! I have been stalking the Alice Starmore shop and she has a very nice jacket pattern. I can see that the Fair Isle would give it good body as a jacket.

That crime scene scarf looks awesome!

I'm really pleased with the scarf.
Am knitting it for a Cold Aussie - so needs to finishe it soon! (only 1 more letter to go!)

Another trick for adding warm/durability to a knit is to slip every second stitch on every second row.
I alternate the slipped stitches every other row or as a 2-2 repeat to make interesting patterns.
I do this on all my sock heels, and they don't wear though anywhere near as fast!
