I finally took myself to the doctor this morning to deal with what seems to be sinusitis - "that nose thing" I've been complaining about for about 6 weeks now. I tried everything else in the hope that I could avoid taking antibiotics as these upset my Crohn's. My Crohn's has still not settled down after the Birthday Incident of 2010.
Anyway, I like this particular doctor cause she's very old school and really really hard to get drugs out of. After the last 10 years, I want to avoid putting as many chemicals inside my body as possible. But the nose thing is really starting to bother me. The doctor's response however was to prescribe me to drink 4 L of water a day (she totally wrote the number 4 on a piece of paper and gave it to me). When I told her I didn't think I could even fit 4L of water in me a day she said, "If you believe it, Alisa, you can do it." And then she told me that I needed to give up dairy - milk, yoghurt and even chocolate. Chocolate!!! I said that she was mean. And she laughed and said that yes she was but it will help my Crohn's too and that I should switch to a Japanese diet, like her.
Japanese food is awesome. And I was kinda thinking that I needed to remove dairy from my diet anyway. But. No chocolate?!?! *cries*. Forever?! When I was at my sickest with Crohn's, I spent a year on an elimination diet - no gluten, no dairy, no alcohol, no colours or preservatives (in certain number ranges), no nuts, no caffeine, no meat. I believe that's what helped me get my Crohn's under control and I felt a lot better as a result. But I tell you, life without food and drink you can enjoy is touch. For me, it was like cutting off one of my senses for enjoying life.
I dunno that I can live without chocolate.
Tomorrow though, I guess I will make a start on the cutting out of dairy. But I don't have to be happy about it :(
