Whilst I was writing the last post, a really interesting link to a post about rape arrived in my inbox from a friend.

I think it's seeing women as "people", as "equal" cause if you do that, the rest follows - the valuing our work, our feelings, our opinions, are different outlooks and interaction in the world.

Which, is such a foreign concept - that women are not seen as "people" - wtf are we if not people? It's so foreign to the house I grew up in.

But I very much like this idea of feminisim providing a language to allow a discourse - enabling you to explain why a behaviour or way of interacting with me back me want to kill you, or myself. And yeah, I very much agree that its about ingrained behaviours - we've outed all the obvious acts and language of sexism but that doesn't mean we are free and done. Now we are down to details, which are just as important.

And it's so very hard for men who are by and large not sexists and free thinkers to remotely contemplate that they still have actions or vocabulary or ways of dealing with or speaking to women that are highly insulting or upsetting. And you know, yeah you agree that women should get equal pay for equal work but that doesn't give you a free pass on the rest.
