chain of command

so. I've contemplated posting a link to my internship's website either here or on FB because they have some awesome programs and do some pretty cool work, but I choose not to do that because I'd rather not cast them in a negative light in such a public forum.

Anyway, I'm not sure if it's just my specific supervisor or the culture of the organization as a whole, but I'm feeling very strange that I'm not allowed to (or not supposed to) be doing certain things for myself. I can never just ask my supervisor a question; it has to be asked of her supervisor. In certain circumstances, I'm not allowed to email others at our organization or out in the community -- it has to go through her! It's pretty unbelievable. It's also rather frustrating because it makes it impossible to get anything done in a timely manner. And sometimes things don't get done.

So apparently I was supposed to receive a gas mileage reimbursement check from my internship on the 10th of this month, but I never got it. It probably doesn't help that I don't have a "box" at their administrative office to put it in. I imagine that the appropriate channel to go through in this instance would have been to talk to my supervisor first and let her take care of it. But she's not there on Fridays, and it's already a week past due. So I called the office, and got denied and told to try again on Monday. But I persisted and emailed the person who distributes the checks to ask about it...and eventually got a reply saying that my check, and the checks of others, would be available on Monday. So at least there's an answer now.

Other than that, I got no sleep last night and am supposed to be meeting up with friends late tonight. I'm not feeling so great, so we'll see how that goes.
