Do you like my artwork?
Do you know someone who would like a portrait as a gift?
Do you have a snapshot or photo that you love, but wish it wasn't just a snapshot?
Have you always wanted a portrait done by me but couldn't afford it?

Now is your chance! :D For the next few weeks/months, I'm whoring myself out, er, um working for peanuts, I mean offering my professional artistic services to you for a fraction of my normal fees!

What's included?
You provide me with a photograph (scanned & emailed, or sent to me) of yours, and I create a vignette portrait for you using that photo as reference, and send you the finished piece. I can use snapshots, old photos, even composite multiple photos together into one image. The only thing I can't work with is professional or copyrighted photos without the photographer's (or copyright holder's) permission. Portraits will be done on black illustration board, unless another color is agreed upon beforehand, and will be drawn with one color (usually white). I can include a small color accent as well if you'd like. I'm also still doing my regular portrait shoots and commissions, and info for those are on my site here.

What is a Vignette Portrait?
vi·gnette (vn-yt)
n.
1. An unbordered picture, often a portrait, that shades off into the surrounding color at the edges.

This one is 5x7". And yes, I did bejewel my pencil holder. :D

Basically, the focus is on the face, and some small framing accents that fade into the background. Kind of like this:

Created from this snapshot:

Prices/Fees
5x7" (1 subject) - $50
8x10" (1-2 subjects) - $100-$120
11x14" (1-3 subjects) - $150-$200
(My regular prices start at $275!)

Why am I doing this? Simple. I need teeth. Ok, maybe not so simple. ;) The gist: bad genetics, bad teeth. Because of that, I need most of them covered or replaced and I'm running out of time. Dental work is $$$, and along with what we've slowly paying and saving over the past few years, I'm doing what I can to get this work done as fast as possible and not have to be in pain or worry about them so much. We're about half way there, but that's still only half way there. :P

As some of you know, I got a slightly shorter stick in the genetics department in the form of defective collagen/connective tissue. One of the manifestations is in my teeth (among other places). They are weak, misshapen, and crumbling from the inside. Many have broken off, and leaving them alone (aside from regular cleaning and maintenance) wasn't enough with the risks of absesses, infections, and well, pain. I was fortunate enough to have my dental files make their way to the UW Prosthedontics Grad Student Dept. and have been working with them for the past few years to get me to a stable and healthy smile. The total when all is said and done, is around $12k (gum surgeries, root canals, etc aside), which is about a quarter of what a private dentist would cost. I *really* needed braces too, but they're working around it because it would have been an additional $5k. Ouch!

Here's what my teeth looked like a few years ago. They're a little worse now, but this pic showed them off pretty well.

Here's what they're doing. All the grey bits are where there will be new teeth. The ones on the bottom front will only be covered on the top and bottom, not fully capped/crowned.

You can see my current teeth modeled to the right. The black marks are where they removed gum tissue because the teeth broke off.

And here's the temp teeth I have in now. They're still working to shape them a little more (the two front teeth are my own, as well as the 4 under them on the bottom - all 6 have to wait to get veneers, but the rest are temps), and they are all different colors, but it's begun!

Hopefully this portrait deal will be something you'll want to get in on! Seriously, I'll be performing highly skilled artistic labor for a couple bucks an hour, so please take advantage of this while you can!!!
