Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

The other day in my "scifi" class (i use quotations just because we really haven't talked all that much about sci fi in it), someone pulled out SCC as an example of women-focused sci fi. My prof kind of scoffed at it as not, because the show is ultimately about JOhn. Maybe the movies were ultimately about John, and John is navigating his own Heroes Journey, but this show is unarguably about Sarah. Sarah is completing her own journey. Sarah is a fully realized character.

Problems with Sci Fi in regards to women:
1. Protagonists are male.
2. Women are presented as victims/aliens
3. Womens issues are not the focus.

Where in this show is Sarah not presented as a protagonist? Hell, her name is in the title! Where is she a victim? She is constantly kicking ass and taking names. Motherhood? The mothering experience? Totally a women's issue.

There was another list that was how to know if SciFi is Women friendly, but I can't remember it right now. Mostly the inverse of the other list anyways.

feminism, teevee, sarah connor kicks ass
