Another World is Possible.

I have written a bit about how my classes this semester are frustrating and depressing me. I have written even less about how my teachers and people in the class are so amazing. Sure, there's always a dose of the stupid, but the classes (lets be fair, excluding logic) are full of intelligent inspiring amazing people.

Last Women of the South, all of Keely's frustrations of how hopeless all these situations seemed. How the problems all seemed so massive and systemic, how could we ever overcome them? Pretty much exactly what we were all thinking but no one wanted to say. Itrath Syed, the teacher of the class, came back with a very good case that we can in fact change things. That things have already been changed. Yes it can be frustrating, yes it can be hard, but Another World Is Possible.

In conclusion, I was curious about what the name Itrath meant, so I googled it. Did I get any baby name sites? No. Off of a just first name search I still got sites/articles specific to the one Itrath that I know. I had no idea that she had run as a NDP candidate in the 2004 federal election! I also found an open letter that she wrote about equality.

It's kind of cool to know that she's not just talking out of her ass. She has been out in the community and has a long history of activism. After thursdays class, combined with a bunch of foreward momentum from planning group projects, it really does feel like Another World Is Possible.

And I'm going to be part of it.
