My philosophy textbook is apparently anti-choice. Very first example in the book. Since it's wrong to kill a human being, it follows that abortion is wrong, because abortion takes the life of (kills) a human being.
That's special. I have a feeling that it's going to be a fun class. Half an hour until my next one starts. Can't wait to go home already ( Read more... )

I didn't! Just tired in general. I went to bed at a nice respectable time. Just like I promised. *nods*

That logic also follows suit for the death penalty. What do they say on that?

If capital punishment is not a better deterrent than life imprisonment, it should be abolished. Capitol punishment is not abetter deterrent than life imprisonment. Therefore capital punishment should be abolished.

Took me a bit to find a mention of it. I imagine the book is just throwing out random examples to illustrate forms of arguments. Seems odd that they'd go with the abortion one first though.

I had forewarning, but I figured it wouldn't be too bad. The whole point of the example was to illustrate the components of an argument (premises, conclusion). All of the other examples are random and inane as can be, why would they open with that one?

The class is going to be painful, if only cause the teacher has a stutter and talks really slow.
