National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

18 years ago today, a man walked into L'École Polytechnique in Montreal and killed 14 women. For being women. It seems odd somehow that my final for my Women and Sexuality class is due today. a good news story?? how much more ignorant can that comment be? violence against women is grosely ignored in the news media. violence occurs towards women more then men. this is a fact. yes men can be victims to. and that should be regonized. this does not change the fact that women have always been much much more likely to be the victims of mail violence, in many forms. i feel unsafe when i'm walking alone at night. i might be raped. men don't have to feel that way, at least not to that extent. as far as domestic violence, the social and income inequality often keeps women in abusive relationships simply does not apply to men.

this comment is like a slap in the face to all women.

cat, i understand your feelings well. it is scary and so sad. and i understand the shame to. i always thought only a certain type of woman would end up in an abusive relationship ( those with a family of origin background of violence and a low income bracket for eg.) until it happened to me. i didn't fit my own sterotypes. and yes this does affect all women, and it should concern all men.
