Jup, I finally made it. Venice the weekend before carnival.
We had a wonderful sunday, with lovely weather and everything, and I'm so glad we made it. It's way too long since I last was there - over ten years ago I think!
I know they're not perfect, but I love "mistreating" my telefoto lens. Which means I haven't got one image of all those fully masked people. Speaking of - I could swear there used to be more dressed up "pros" than this year. Maybe I'm mistaken, who knows? Some of them did look like they were overwhelmed by the crowds of photographers, shying away from the masses with their cameras.
Two pictures taken while riding the Vaporetto along the Canal Grande.
A Dragon Lady posing under the arcades of the Doge's Palace, and a look back to the waterfront through a doorway - somewhere between Arsenale and Giardini.
Let me tell you, I was hard put not to pull over to Grado on our way back home instead of going back to Graz. Or maybe even take a longer route back home; doesn't matter as long as it was (?) italy. Maybe... maybe later this year.
And I can't believe I'm watching - at least listening - the opera ball. So full of -.
