Ater travelling to Provincetown from Newport yesterday, we did make it a slower day today - even staying at the same place two nights! And that das definitely worth it - as it always is when the ocean and long, white beaches and dunes are involved. (Aye, child of landlocked country speaking here.)
We started our day (with a weird breakfast and) a climb up the Pilgrims' Monument (or however they call it). Which, basically, is a campanile much like the one on Siena's main plaza, only much more comfortable to climb and a failsafe platform up on top, complete with windows and such. Honetly, it was a little bit dissapointing, the view from up there. Though it might be unfair to compare it with Siena. A fox did cross our path up to the Monument, though.
Anyhow, this day was reserved for long walks along the beach only. And the White Cedar Swamp Walk (or so), because we can never skip a swamp walk. [Compare: Sweden, Kanada, or Scotland]
Anyhow, the coolest thing today was that there was this colony of seals on this beach. Some 200 to 300 animals, right in front of our eyes! Amazing. I never believed I'd see such a colony. Even the two seals we saw in Scotland the year before last were something to remember. And now this! When initially, we only stopped to have some lunch - lobster roll. :-)
True to "Knocking on Heaven's Door", we did watch the sunset on the ocean - "because in Heaven, that's all the talk about." And now, we're back in our room with the biggest Pizza I've ever seen (luckily enough, it's quite edible), a beer, and an episode of Arrow.
