"Putting out a zine, any zine, is a political act. Whether it's the high school kid who does a zine about Sloan, or the collective's newsletter advocating environmental awareness, both are reclaiming what was essentially theirs to begin with."
Hilary Clark's quote "Putting out a zine, any zine, is a political act. Whether it's the high school kid who does a zine about Sloan, or the collective's newsletter advocating environmental awareness, both are reclaiming what was essentially theirs to begin with" is right on the dot. By putting out a zine of any kind is a political act because it deals with freedom of speech. By expressing ones self they talk about issues in their perspective, by doing so they talk about what they think about the issues agreeing or disagreeing about the certain subject.
Zines made by high school students about music or love is a political act because it may or may not agree with statistics. Each person thinks for themselves and thus puts out their own perspective contrasting with a professionals perspective on a certain issue. This motivates people to challenge other perspective, sometimes independent zines can find flaws about a certain statistic thus allows the person to analyze their beliefs. This helps the society to touch base on every concern about a certain issue, often times proffesional zines don't analyze certain subjects thoroughly or only focus on a certain angle. By someone rebutting their opinion people can take the issue to a next level.
