.sometimes life's just sitting on trains.

Still with same duder. He was run over by a train this past Thursday after falling off the platform due to a blood glucose of 20. Multiple trauma wounds: right elbow fracture, C7 fracture, right ear almost ripped off, stitches and sutures to head and right foot. Steve is out of the ICU and onto the regular med/surg floor...and now his diabetes is not really controlled. I was there for most of today and he stayed about 300 for the time i was there. Also had to do a dressing change to his left hand...some moron put a 4x4 on a wound that calls for a nonstick pad and bactroban dressing(thank you ICU nurse). Soaked the fuck out of it with wound cleaner and still pulled off some fresh tissue. I cannot stress enough how unsatisfied with Jamaica Hospital I am.
At least he knows he's taken care of when my loud mouth and I arrive.
Goes in for partial grafts to the arm and ear tomorrow. Interested to see if they tend to that any better. Out of the 8+ hours there, only one nurse showed up to put bactroban on his slightly disengaged ear. The one they need to keep moist...and there's an order for xeroform.
Go figure.
We've had our disagreements, but this really makes me think. I'm willing to spend my days off sitting by his side at a hospital, making sure he doesn't stink too bad. If that's not love, what is?
