I caught The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee this weekend, which is light on plot and, um, sense, but heavy on charm. And they gave out candy! I didn't get any, but I appreciated the gesture. (Note to Theatre: more free snacks in general, please.)
But the photo has nothing to do with that. After the show, Ann and I happened to walk by Nathan Phillip's Square, where a totally insanely deconstructed adaptation of Alice in Wonderland from the Netherlands was happening, outdoors and on stilts. It was weird and hard to follow, but absolutely gorgeous. All the set pieces were mounted on 10-foot-tall dollies, and seemed to float above the heads of the crowd, and the entire cast was on metre-high stilts. The above photo is from one of the scenes with the playing card army. I took as many pictures as my tiny (and already almost full) memory card would let me. My camera isn't awesome for dusky shots, but I tried - you can see the rest
here.
