Elian Gonzalez joins Cuba's Young Communists

Jun 17, 2008 00:20

Communist youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde quotes Elian Gonzalez as saying he will never let down ex-President Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro, who succeeded Fidel earlier this year.

Now 14, Elian was 6 when Miami relatives lost their fight to keep him in the United States and he was returned to Cuba in mid-2000 with his father.

Elian had survived a boating accident off the Florida coast that killed his mother, who was attempting to get to the U.S.

Juventud Rebelde says in its Sunday edition that the boy was among 18,000 people who joined the group on Saturday.”

OMFG! Marry me, Elian! Make me a Cuban Communist!

I remember being SO sick of hearing about this story back in the day. Even though I felt bad for him, I wanted him to be sent back. I’ve always talked a hard line on illegal immigration - obviously something needs to be done. I also have fiscal libertarian leanings - in that respect I’m a product of my environment. I’m trying to work on these issues…I desire to be a good little Socialist.

Back on topic - I’m so proud of this kid!  He’s been through hell and now he’s fighting the good fight. If there’s one good way to stick it to the US, it’s to make the Castro brothers proud. Keep on keepin’ on, kiddo!
