Being proselytized

Plan A was to go to bed early tonight...Plan B appears to have been to stay up playing with LJ. I think this means I will not be going to work at 7am tomorrow (Saturday) to call Brazil, as was the original plan. Good. I think this is a good plan revision.

The day started off auspiciously enough, with me jumping into my nice, green Community Car hybrid Prius. But I think I entered some sort of parallel universe when I got to the dentist's office shortly thereafter. The dental hygenist seemed like a really nice, intelligent woman (and I'm sure she actually was both of those things) until she started talking about the Book of Revelations. Interesting tidbits I picked up from her:

(1) Increased sunspot activity recently measured by scientists might be mentioned in the BoR, where it talks about the sun being partially blocked out;
(2) Recent attempts to start implanting identifier chips in employees, bar patrons, and even cats and dogs might presage a future implant which will be the actual Mark of the Beast (also from Revelations)
(3) Because (in my words) I "am more Buddhist than anything else", I am (in her words) "putting my faith in another man"; (funny, that's not how the Buddhists see it)
(4) Police are starting to use some new technique to immobilize protesters en masse by 'ionizing' the air around them -- something like a contact-free taser (this I need to investigate to see if there was a kernel of fact)
(5) Her church picnic is coming up next week, and would I like to come?

Her last comment along those lines was, "Well, if I had to make an appraisal, I'd say you were 'seeking'." (Not that I asked.) My response was, "Well, yes, most of us are."

Ahem. I just didn't know how to respond to most of that. Luckily, she was cleaning my teeth for most of it, so I couldn't talk much anyway.

I left the dentist, drove back to my neighborhood, still feeling odd, and went into the nice, green, food co-op across the street. Felt like I had been on a long, strange trip.
