God is Not Great--How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens

I'm only on the third chapter. But already this book is conjuring up some pent-up feelings and frustrations that I've had my entire life. I've always been so careful not to offend people whose beliefs are very different from my own. Mainly because there are a lot of people that I love who are Lutherans, Catholics, Buddhists and so on. But if these people know me well enough, they know that the way I feel about religion (as a whole) really doesn't have a whole lot to do with them on a personal level. So I'm not going to apologize for anything I think or say about the topic. I never should have in the first place. No one has ever apologized to me, or even known for that matter, if they have offended me from a "religious" standpoint. And I really don't expect them to. But for the unlove of god, why should I have to tiptoe around anyone about what I think? Isn't my opinion just as "worthy" as anyone elses?

Hitchens has definitely written a very cynical and one-sided book. He doesn't mention any of the "positive" aspects of religion. But just because there are a few positive aspects to rat poison doesn't mean that you should blindly swallow any trace of it you ever come across. And you know what? How many times throughout my short life have I been smothered with the very cynical and one-sided bullshit that Christianity writes? Too many times. And I'm tired of it.

"Have you found Jesus?"

"Yes, and he told me that you're a close-minded, vanity-stricken, brain-washed tyrant who needs to stop misinterpreting the so-called Word Of God and make some decisions for yourself."
