I am going to Barcelona for my holiday too. I've been once before and I love it. It's no worse for pickpockets than London.
I am looking for a hotel/hostel recommendation, as last time we stayed with the big kid's grandmother who is an EFL teacher there, so I shall read comments with interest. It is my perception that El Raval is a bit like the area round Gare du Nord, oe even Leith, and I like that. It's very central, right where La Rambla is.
You MUST go to Parc Güell. I can't wait to go to Xampany and Xocoa and also eat my body weight in baby octopus!
first one looks lovely and location is good. 2nd will have a noise problem, almost definitely. 3rd is nice, can't tell from map if noise will be an issue.
I love Bcn - bear in mind august can be stiflingly hot.
I know, ideally we'd go now but i've only got a job till 31st of july, so i need to earn the cash to spend! That's a shame about the second one, cos it's lovcely looking. thanks for the heads up though. I am not one to stay up till 5 am, and I often find that i get more tired on holiday cos I'm not running around full of stress.
yeah timing is often the issue - but 'cause it's august you often find it's easier to get accom then.
yeah all those places on/just off the ramblas run large risk of being kept awake til 6am. They know they can keep getting first-time visitors in to fill rooms without warning people of the noise. The rooms in Eixample are nearly always MUCH bigger than the old town - they were all built in latter part of 19th century and have high ceilings etc which helps keep them cool and airy too.
I'm going to pick your barcelona brain again- how are these two for noise,? This one is in the same building as one of the others, but it faces an interior courtyard. Is this one okay for noise?
did you mean for both of those to be same link? It's hard to judge about noise - if the bedroom faces onto the interior courtyard you'll be ok but it doesn't seem to state which room(s) do so. Generally the east side of Ramblas is to be preferred so it's good in that respect location-wise.
that one looks v nice. The Born area is one I am not familiar with - I only really passed through it on way to conference centre by metro and didn't explore much on foot from Las Ramblas. It does seem to be a respectable distance from the noiser streets juse off the Ramblas.
