Sad news
The grapevine of news didn't take long to reach Katherine's ear. Connor dead? She had just met him a couple of months ago...and the time that had passed seemed even shorter. True she hadn't known him well but it made her sad that the friendship that could have formed between them would never get the chance to do so. The loss didn't cut her as deeply as it did others but she felt it all the same. He had kept her entertained at the gala and it had been the high point of the evening. Then she had denyed him the honor of a drinking companion and for that she would forever feel remorse. She was thankful for his company that night and now she regretted the fact that she would never get to convey her gratitude in person.
Sitting the window in the foyer she looked out over the clean, crisp night sky. It was perfect weather for going out but Katherine had no desire to. She swirled the glass of sangria in her hand before taking a sip. Watching as the light bugs kept a silent vigil she hummed a few bars of an Irish tune she had heard long ago and nearly forgotten.
