We Need Healthcare Reform

Sep 29, 2012 17:30

I just got back from the NAFC's free health clinic here in Dallas and by the end of the day, we will have seen almost 1300 people!! And I am really proud to say - for anyone ragging on Dallas, TX - that we had the biggest volunteer turnout yet! I helped out with the children's section and in just 3 hours we were able to check-in over 300 children! I'm really proud of what I did today and it made me feel really whole (which is why I know I am pursuing the right career now). Anyway, I also met some really great volunteers and physicians, nurses and PA's who are really for health reform. And that makes my heart sing!

But, y'know, my opinion is that there should be no reason anyone should be getting seen in a fucking convention center! Or a church or wherever else people with no health insurance are seen. And no one should have to have 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 year gaps for medical care!! And when someone loses their job or doesn't have one, emotions of fear or dread shouldn't have to sweep over them.

It is a true disgrace that we still have to argue over people's right to healthcare in this country. Texas is one of the top-leading states who have the most uninsured children. Good job Governor Rick Perry, you piece of shit!

Disabling comments because I just don't want to hear it from those people who are opposed to healthcare reform. Do me a favor and before you say shit, volunteer at one of these things. Better yet, volunteer more than once. It's okay to not kill a fetus but it is totally fine to let a child who is alive die because they're sick? Your priorities are fucked up.
