Currently sitting at Café Blacony on Rochester and Santa Monica in west la. This is finally my first glimpse into legitimate coffee shop culture in the city that I openly claimed was entirely devoid. After frantically searching for years, I’ve finally found a charmingly designed and maintainec privately owned café that pulls siphon-espresso shots of illy beans.

This is the sweetest espresso that I’ve had since my trip across the small outdoor cafes of Vienna. When I first tasted the magic I was immediately taken back to my adventure across Western Europe, and the amazing tastes that I encountered there. In this way, good espresso has an amazing potential of motivating an individual who is frustratingly lost in the pre-exam vortex with nostalgic trips down palatable memory lane.

Two americanos later: said compulsory studying has been maximized and academic morale has raised significantly.

Second best part of café balcony: an amaaazingly eccentric yet pragmatically grounded customer base. Made conversation with Eve and Brian at the outdoor smoking patio earlier this evening. Both are intensely interesting individuals, who are currently attending art school for illustration. Exchanged numbers with them and am excited to more fully explore the social realm outside of narrowly circumscribed UCLA populace.

There is so much to see, hear, taste, and experience, yet unfortunately my microcosm hides a great deal of this deeply veiled and inlaid helLA magic.

Back to cramming for Political Economy of Development. Will be officially done with midterms at 5:15pm tomorrow, and will have to embark on a short-lived hedonistic escapade before I embark on the paper-trail that demarcates the sad decline from midterms to finals time. . . .
