Eleven year old Harry Potter is waiting to leave for Hogwarts. While he is waiting for the Dursleys to wake, he finds a letter addressed to him...from himself. It has a simple message: Get to know Ginny Weasley. Post OOTP. AU. Extended edition. I originally read this story over at ff.net where, I believe, there are 26 chapters posted. However, the author is doing a re-write, adding in a lot of great material, and reposting the story rapidly at SIYE. I love the plot and the characterizations in this story. But what I especially love is that the author knows how to handle canon. He doesn’t turn anyone into sappy or evil or malicious or silly caricatures of themselves, as some fic writers do when they attempt to go through canon from a new perspective. The author knows where to adjust things and when to leave well enough alone. So there are no huge blocks of text quoted verbatim from canon, causing moments of boredom where we’re simply re-reading what we’ve already read in the books. Nor are there times when we wonder how the author could possibly take a particularly well-written moment in canon and turn it into something completely ludicrous. The story is fresh and exciting.
