More sniffly thoughts

There are times when I think I should invest in Kleenex stock before the start of each auction.  I swear I end up going through an entire box of tissues by myself mid-way through the event.  The post-auction work is possibly more emotional for me.

I wish you could all see the kinds of comments that have been coming in.  Remember the often-parodied scene in "Contact" where Jody Foster says repeatedly, "They should have sent a poet!"  I feel that way when we're sorting through payments and reading the notes that come in with them.  (Side note: I wonder how many poets would commonly be found among accountants?)

Our economy absolutely stinks at the moment.  After a year without a job of my own and without my husband receiving full pay, I'm quite aware of that.  And yet so many hundreds of people are sending in amazing donations, big and small, each one immensely valuable.  Aside from matters of faith, there are times my religious education is an asset, and this is one of them, as I continue to compare these gifts to the parable of the Widow's Mite.  Maybe I'm just overly sentimental at this point.  Several days with little sleep as I read through the immensely kind remarks and well wishes from strangers for my dear friend could have that affect!  But I wish I could share just a few examples with you of how kind, how deeply compassionate these strangers have been.

I could babble on about this at length, but suffice it to say that I'm a weepy mess this week as I process things - both emotional processing and actually processing payments, lol.  My poor kids and hubby have been eyeing me warily as I ride this emotional roller coaster and am regularly found blubbering in front of the computer.

And btw, we've had so many, many special offers made by authors, and flat-donations made by bidders who didn't win, or who did win and are donating extra, that our total has now reached $38,604.  And it's still climbing!

Someone needs to invent new words to express thanks, because "thank you" isn't hacking it for me.
