01x16: Star crossed lovers & Other strangers

The story of how Stars Hollow came to be cracked me up. I would expect nothing less from the town that romanticized the 12 Revolutionary soldiers who stood in the snow waiting for the British, who never showed. Hehehehe! And that one long, establishing shot that makes up the opening scene was fantastic. MAN did that ever have to be closely story-boarded and choreographed!!!

I just have to say that I agree 100% with Dean about Tolstoy. I tried to read Tolstoy once. And, just as I will never, ever, ever again take the lemon-juice-and-olive-oil remedy, so, too, will I never, ever, ever again attempt Tolstoy. They both left a bad taste in my mouth that I can still remember, decades later.

Yup, apparently the strolling minstrel guitar player is a common sight.

*snort* They store all their pans in the oven? Hhehehe! I set my boss’ kitchen on fire one time because I was preheating his oven and didn’t know he stored his oven mits in the broiler. Seriously.

“What a shame Elizabeth Barrett Browning wasn’t here to witness this. She’d put her head through a wall.” Okay, I still think Paris is a bitch. And I’m still mad at her for being deliberately mean. But that was funny.

Aww, Lorelai is surrounded by smooching people, too. *snicker*

How close is the Inn to Stars Hollow? It seems to be close enough that Lorelai can just slip out to go get coffee, yet far enough away that until she moved out of the inn and into her house, she was completely outside of Stars Hollow society.

I’m amused that Lorelai’s cynical, angry mood is immediately lightened when she gets to see Luke be mean and surly.

Wow. That was an interesting lead-in. “I’m going to despise everyone who says ‘Hey, how’s it going.’” And then Rachel walks in and says, “Hey, how’s it going?”

Wow. Luke is wigging out. And I suspect having Rachel and Lorelai sitting side by side isn’t helping him. That’s quite a visual. ..and Lorelai left without paying for her coffee.

Interesting that she’s saying she misses Max. Seems more like she’s mopey cause she doesn’t know what she thinks about Luke. Does she really miss Max I wonder? “I had a dream about him the other night…”

I dreamt the Tenth Doctor went to Hogwarts to have a chat with Dumbledore, and Snape hated him instantly. He hated him so much, in fact, that he tried to climb out a window to escape having a conversation with him. It was a very amusing dream.

So why does Emily want Lorelai to come to a FND without Rory anyway? Wasn’t the whole point of the dinners for them to get to spend time with Rory?

Okay, I just figured something out. In describing the statue of Emily which would be erected in honor of her whack-a-mole skills, Lorelai essentially described Donna Reed. Lorelai equates Donna Reed with her mom!

When Lorelai slouched on the couch after her dad went to help Chase with the gin, she looked exactly like she must’ve looked as a teenager in those situations.

I love tiramisu. I don’t know that I’d serve raspberries with it though. That’s interesting. I’d like to try it, though. Now I want raspberries and tiramisu just so I can see if they go together.

This Chase guy is a real piece of work! It’s interesting how much Richard despises him. *snicker* I can’t decide who dislikes him more: Richard or Lorelai.

Wow, that looks like a VERY VERY VERY dangerous place to stage the bonfire.

Okay, she’s eyeballing her coat. She’s not going to… OMG she is. She’s sneaking out the balcony. Bwahahahhahhahahaah!!

LMAO - and Richard let her escape. *snort*

Awwww! He’s building her a car!

Aw, that scene with Dean saying “I love you” was very sad. He’s so insecure and nervous about it, and yet he totally put her on the spot. He knows she’s never had a relationship before, but he’s being such a clueless boy about this and doesn’t see how confusing it would all be to someone in her position. Poor Rory.

So the scene in the town square is interesting. That bonfire is violating a bazillion safety codes. Rachel really is pretty and it’s quite interesting seeing how she interacts with Luke. It’s also interesting seeing him quizzed about Lorelai. Seeing the opposite side of that equation is good. And then Lane walks by with a very large parade of Koreans. *snort* Now Lorelai has just taken Rachel’s seat on the bench. That isn’t going to end awkwardly at ALL. Aww, it was a sweet conversation. And he rubbed her bare thigh when he got up. Nice.

And she calls Max Medina. I stand by my earlier thought. She doesn’t miss Max, she misses having someone and she is confused about what she thinks of Luke.

Oh. Oh, oh, oh. Poor Rory. She and Dean just broke up. Awww!

Stupid boy.

GG 01x17: The Breakup, Part II

The Dean box scene is sad. Poor Rory! And she won’t even talk about it with her mom!

Aww.. the next morning she’s waking up her mom at SIX A.M. (That is ungodly) and is all chipper and stuff?? Can we say avoidance tactic?! Also, what’s with the Stars Hollow Elementary doing a production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? WTH! Hello? Can we say inappropriate?!!

I love the shock that Lorelai is expressing over the people up and walking around at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning. This is where I fill the need to break into another speech, on the off-chance that Mockingbird39 ever reads my GG commentaries. I HATE MORNINGS. There is no way in hell I am ever going to get up in the morning and go to a farmer’s market, even if she moves to Kansas City’s riverfront area and has a lovely farmer’s market near her. This involves getting up before noon on a Saturday. I’m pretty sure there’s something in Leviticus that prevents me from doing this.

That is all.

LMAO at the strange route they are taking to get to Luke’s that avoids anywhere Dean could possibly be. Any chance they’ll run into him anyway?

Rachel’s wearing Luke’s flannel and serving coffee. Hm. And she actually Opened Up the diner. Hmm.

Okay, at first I thought Rory was being paranoid about how everyone already knew she got dumped 8 hours before. But apparently not? How on earth does anyone already know?? Dean surely wouldn’t have told anyone, would he?

I’m LOVING Luke’s reaction to Dean breaking up with Rory. I think his head may explode in a second.

Oh. My. God. Luke is about to pound Dean into the pavement. He’s actually wrestling around with him out in front of the diner. That’s going to help sooo much. Oh, geez. Ouch. Not a happy moment for Rory.

Oh, geez. And Babette. Well-meaning, LOUD Babette. Poor Rory. It looks like she’s instinctively feeling for her comfort-blanket stand-in: the bracelet. But obviously it’s no longer there. *sniffs*

Awww… Lorelai has her own Max box in the same closet where she’s keeping Rory’s Dean box.

I. Love. Sookie and Jackson. This scene with him cooking for her and her wigging out is a HOOT.

I have a very bad feeling about her going to check in on Max. Very. Bad.

Okay, at least he didn’t have a date there with him. That’s what I feared. I’m still not thinking this is a good idea for her to be there, though.

Madeline and whats-her-name don’t make any pretense about NOT being sluts, do they?

And Tristan got ditched in front of Rory, who of course is feeling sympathetic. Once again my uh-oh senses are tingling.

Hehehe: Lane and the Korean radar thing. *snicker* I was going to ask how she got her mom to approve her going to this party! If she goes home and is able to talk about a rich Korean Chilton boy, at least her mom might approve of that, right?

Max Medina’s home is different. There used to be a door leading to the bedroom. Now it sort of looks like a studio setup.

I love how Paris FLINGS herself out of the house at 10:35pm, while Rory finally gets an opportunity to pull her book out of her purse.

The conversation between Max and Lorelai in bed was sad. I really still don’t like him for her. For one thing, I kind of think that if Rachel hadn’t shown up in town, Lorelai would be spending her emotions wondering about Luke instead of wondering about Max. She openly admitted she’d been avoiding thinking about him. I think if she’d gone that long without thinking about him, chances are that she could’ve continued in that vein.

Now we’ve got Tristan and Rory in a room feeling sad together. Such a bad setup. Yup. I’m not liking this mutual commiseration. Aaaaand he kissed her. Not good. She’s so not ready for that. Poor girl.

Man. I didn’t realize they sold Ben & Jerry’s in tubs that big. Where do I get some of that??????????????? I would kill for some Cherry Garcia in a tub that big.

Now I’m craving Cherry Garcia. Thank you Gilmore Girls. Why do I always end up hungry after watching this show? It’s 2am and I’m seriously debating whether or not to run to the store for Cherry Garcia.

GG 01x18 The Third Lorelai

“Did you know a butt model makes $10,000 a day?” “Camelot is truly dead.”

*Snort*

Seriously, I can’t concentrate on this episode. I’m still craving Cherry Garcia thanks to the last episode.

…I went in to the kitchen and I was about a hair’s breath away from making myself some really god-awful unhealthy Sunday (pecans, whipped cream, French silk ice cream with chocolate chunks). Instead I went with pinto gallo. (A Costa Rican dish with beans, rice and veggies.) This is healthier, but it’s so not as satisfying as Cherry Garcia. Or Chunky Monkey. Damn you Gilmore Girls!!!

I’m going to take fewer notes on this episode because it’s 2am and I can’t stay up all night doing this, lol! But quick question: what grade is Rory supposed to be in? Because they keep talking about how it’s 3 years till Harvard. But she’s rather old at 16 to be in her freshman year.

It is very hard not to comment a lot in this episode. I laughed my butt off that Emily had to admit to re-gifting the coat rack. It’s also very interesting hearing Emily rant about her mother-in-law, since EVERYTHING she’s saying about her could be things Lorelai would say about Emily if Lorelaiy were more uptight!

Also, Tristan just landed himself another reason for me not to like him: He didn’t recognize a Casablanca quote. Tsk. Tsk.

Looooving the big frippin coat rack they’re hauling around. And the camera that she’s bringing along for mean documentary purposes.

I can’t make up my mind what I think about Lorelai I. She’s quite the bitch! On the other hand, she likes Lorelai & Rory, so that’s a point in her favor. And her put-downs to Emily are very amusing, because they are SO Emily-ish. Except I think Emily has been learning to be nicer.

Damn it. Now she’s eating chocolate cake. And I’m out of pinto gallo. *listens to the calls of French Silk from the kitchen…* *debates* *attempts to stand firm*

The scene with Paris coming over for wardrobe help is sweet.

And the scene with the Grandma saying she wants to set up a trust fund for Rory is very interesting. I particularly found it interesting how Emily is MAJORLY projecting. The whole thing about how Rory won’t need Lorelai. I’m thinking there are two things going on there. #1: She still resents how self-sufficient Lorelai is and hurts that Lorelai left them. #2: She knows that as long as she and Richard can provide Rory with things like trips to Europe, they’ll be needed in Rory’s life. But if Lorelai accepts that money, Rory and Lorelai won’t need FNDs or any other contact with the grandparents.

Strolling Minstrel alert!

Yuuuuuuuuuuup. Emily just said it: If Lorelai gets the money, she will never go back there. *continues to ignore the French Silk ice cream, which is actually yodeling at me at the moment, swear to God*

Ooooh gawd. Tristan just told Paris that Rory suggested he ask her out. In addition to telling her he wants to just be friends, now he doesn’t even leave her with the knowledge that she caught his eye. Ugh.

That fight with Lorelai and Emily at the tea room. Very interesting. Emily finally felt guilt about what she was doing and seemed to realize she was being selfish. What I didn’t get is why Lorelai was so understanding. She didn’t seem to have realized yet that the whole point was that Emily was afraid of losing Lorelai & Rory. And yet, she was very understanding to her mom and accepted her apology very graciously.

Interesting that she tells Rory about the money after the fact! I’m rather surprised. On the other hand, I suppose Rory would find out soon enough that she was inheriting that money. Man, what a huge hunk of change to inherit!

Okay, 3am and I’m still ignoring the French Silk. I don’t dare attempt another GG episode. It’s ridiculously late and I’ll end up eating chocolate.

Night!
