For most of us, the day is yet to come when we can make that statement over Thanksgiving dinner! So until then, The Stocking Stuffer Author Auction is here to help with your holiday shopping! As a follow up to our phenomenally successful September Author Auction, the Stocking Stuffer Author Auction will take place over Thanksgiving weekend - for 3-days only - to help simplify holiday shopping, all the while raising money for a great cause.
Many of us struggle to come up with gift ideas for our internet friends. Winning a friend’s favorite author is a perfect way to give a gift you know they’ll love; a gift which their “Real Life” friends and family would never think of! And because the writing challenges must all have a holiday theme, covering any one of the holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, we hope that this will be an additional way for readers and authors alike to celebrate the holiday season.
During the last auction, over $5,000 was raised, making a sizable dent in Stacie’s medical bills. Each auction participant made a very real impact in Stacie’s health as a result! Thanks to chemotherapy this fall, 1 of the 4 tumors in Stacie’s breast has disappeared, and the other 3 are now much smaller. Stacie’s doctor is in the process of doubling her chemo in the hope that the 3 small, remaining tumors will be “dissolved” by the end of December. Although she will need to remain on chemo until September of 2009, if all goes well her chemo may be reduced after the holidays, allowing her hair to grow back and her overall health to improve dramatically.
For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, the Author Auction serves as a writing challenge for fandom authors. The authors offer themselves up for the auction block, in this case for a holiday-themed story, approximately 2,500 words long. Their readers have the fun of bidding for (and bickering over!) them, and the winning bidder gets to issue the writing challenge of their choice to the author the won. The timing for the Stocking Stuffer Author Auction is as follows:
Sunday, November 23rd - Deadline for author registration forms
Saturday, November 29th, 12:01am - Auction opens
Monday, December 1st, 9:00pm - Auction ends
Within 21 days of payment receipt, the author you have won will delivery the 2,500 word one-part story to you or your friend. The recipient can choose whether to have the story posted publicly or not.
All payments must be received via paypal at supportstacie@gmail.com. Any auction not paid for will default to the next highest bidder.
