First - *waves to recently friended
KIA reccers* ;-)
I've been having a fun time over at
KIA, incorporating over my old recs, reading through them as I do so, groaning at certain dreadful inclusions, wondering how I could have missed other stories. About the time I start thinking I've read everything decent in the fandom, a project like this really revitalizes my interest in good fanfic. Of course, that's not necessarily a good thing for me at the moment given my 50 books pledge and work schedule.
I think I mentioned on my other LJ that I'm traveling to Chicago now every other week between now and June, at which point it will get REALLY busy. I'm already looking longly towards October, when the outdoor concerts and fests will be over for the year and I can hunker down for the winter in my home office and plan out the next season. As it is, I get exhausted every time I look at my calendar. Truthfully, I love my job and running the events really is a lot of fun. It's just the travel that kills.
Still trying to iron out details for our Deathly Hallows group hook-up over July 21st.
mockingbird39 and I have been hashing out logistics. My tax return this year is about $3k less than anticipated, so it's a bit of a challenge currently figuring out how I'm going to make this trip work. Because, damn it, I'm determined to read Book 7 with friends! The airfare is going to be taken care of thanks to my frequent flyer miles, but the rest of it needs careful planning.
humantales - I got your email and will reply as soon as I have a better idea of our plans. I'm looking forward to meeting Max & Goofy!
Mel was a complete whore the other night - she brought up the idea of us all taking a cruise together that weekend (there was a good one for under $400 per person) and reading the book on the boat. Lovely, lovely idea. Absolutely not going to happen, though. At least not this year. Now that I know there are reputable cruises so cheap, though, I think I may try and talk Josh into doing that for our 15th anniversary in 2 years.
Hmm...other fandom related news... We've had some fun discussions going on over at
hpbook7thoughts, though I've been so absentee that they may slow down a bit.
I've got a great movie sitting on my counter that a friend grabbed for me off of netflix, but by the time I get my kids to bed, I've been too wiped out to watch it with both eyes open. This is quite frustrating as my friend needs me to mail the DVD back to netflix at some point, plus I promised another friend I'd have watched it by now. Ah, well! Better luck tomorrow night.
