...a ten-year old girl when he wants to be. *snicker*
Music Paradise radio show (2007.09.08) -->
download here+disclaimer = I went fast through this one, so there are a few gap points, places where I dropped dialogue, and places where the full meaning doesn't come through. But I wanted to translate it because I thought it was an amusing intereview with a cheerful Ryo-chan, so enjoy it for what it is! :D
Male DJ: Today he's come again, Nishikido Ryo, Ryo-chan!
Male + Female DJ: konbanwa!
Nishikido: konbanwa!!
Male DJ: Ah! You're full of energy!
Nishikido: hai!
Male DJ: So, last week Kanjani8 finished their live in Osaka, right?
Nishikido: That's right.
Male DJ: They came up in conversation a little last week too, but NewS.
Nishikido: hai.
Male DJ: Well, after Kanjani8, this time it's NewS!
Nishikido: NewS!
Male DJ: NewS is going to Taiwan!
Nishikido: We're going to Taiwan. Taipei Arena.
Male DJ: October sixth and seventh. This... why Taiwan?
Nishikido: No reason really. (joking)
Male DJ: Why go to Taiwan?
Nishikido: Well, Taiwan...
Male DJ: Well, originally in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong, aren't Japanese artists doing events over there? And aren't the CDs and DVDs selling pretty well too?
Nishikido: hai.
Male DJ: Well, NewS in Taiwan is pretty popular...
Nishikido: Before I heard about this concert, I too was like, "Do they actually know about us?" It seems like an NHK show that we sometimes appear on plays on BS (broadcast satallite) over them...
Male DJ: You know, because the Japanese are well known, in Taiwan there probably cable channels devoted to Japanese stuff. So, NewS in Taiwan is pretty...
Nishikido: Apparently, our CDs and stuff are really selling. I asked if they were talking about pirated versions, and they were like, "No, the real versions."
Male DJ: *laughs* That wouldn't be any good for Johnny's!
Nishikido: But they're actually selling legal copies over there.
Male DJ: Can't sell pirated versions right?
Nishikido: (mumbles something difficult to catch)
Male DJ: Yeah, they do it.
Nishikido: hai.
Male DJ: On October sixth and seventh. Saturday and Sunday-
Nishikido: Two days. (says in Japanese!pronounced!English)
Male DJ: Two days. Taipei Arena. This place is like Yokohama Arena, right?
Nishikido: No, it's apparently big. (starts making comparisons to other arenas in terms of size)
Male DJ: So, it's bigger than Osaka Jo Hall?
Nishikido: They're about the same probably. But, in terms of capacity compared to other places in Taiwan, it's like performing in Tokyo Dome.
Male DJ: Wait, isn't it bigger?
Nishikido: The ceiling is pretty high.
Male DJ: That is to say, NewS is going to use it all, even the ceiling.
Nishikido: Yeah, well will. Oh, I said it. We won't really use it.
Male DJ: Really? This is really a secret?
Nishikido: A secret. Well, don't say anything...
Male DJ: But we've already said it!
Nishikido: Well, we've said it, but don't really spread it around.
Male DJ: So while keeping it under wraps...
Nishikido: Yeah...
Male DJ: But, *lowers voice* you'll be using the ceiling too.
Nishikido: That's right.
Male DJ: There should be a lot of people from Japan going to this too, right?
Nishikido: Yes, probably.
Male DJ: A bunch...
Nishikido: I think there will be.
Male DJ: Using their travel expenses...while eating Taiwanese food... Ah! When you go to Taiwan, you'll get to eat delicious food!
Nishikido: Yeah. But I love Japanese food the best.
Male + Female DJ: *laughs*
Male DJ: Obsessed with Japanese food?
Nishikido: When I go abroad, I always have trouble with food.
Male DJ: But when it comes to Chinese food, aren't there a lot of flavors that Japanese people like? I think specially in Taiwan...
Nishikido: But in Chinese food, when it comes to the local stuff, aren't the flavors weak?
Male DJ: What?! Aren't they strong?
Nishikido: No way. I love gyoza the best. Like "China Quick".
Male DJ: Ah, at catering places, right? Those are good.
Nishikido: Yeah.
Male DJ: Those are good, so when you go eat the real stuff, it's not all that impressive.
Nishikido: Yeah, not at all.
Male DJ: You haven't been to Asia all that much though, right?
Nishikido: In the past, as backup dancers for the KinKi Kids' concert with Yasuda-kun, I went.
Male DJ: For the KinKi Kids' concert?
Female DJ: Where did you go?
Nishikido: Taipei and Hong Kong.
Male DJ: You ate good food, right?
Nishikido: I did. Do you know that XO fashion hotel? What was it?
Male DJ: Um...
Nishikido: A big hotel in Hong Kong... Oh yeah! It's that hotel I think!
Male DJ: Huh? Where? ...Peninsula Hotel!
Nishikido: Yeah. Peninsula Hotel. We're totally talking about some other thing... *laughs* gomen gomen.
Male DJ: Ah! XO! Near the bridge! I've heard of it.
Nishikido: It was really good. I was about in the ninth grade at the time...
Male DJ: Ninth grade? So seven years ago...
Nishikido: Yeah, so just that one time. But after NewS was formed, everyone went. But I didn't go that time. I was working...
Male DJ: So this'll be the first time going to Asia as NewS.
Nishikido: That's right.
Male DJ: How does everyone feel about going to Asia?
Nishikido: I wonder how they feel... I haven't talked to them much.
Male DJ: Oh, you've been busy. Because of Kanjani8 you've haven't really met up.
Nishikido: We had a planning meeting.
Male DJ: You've already had a meeting?!
Nishikido: We had it awhile back.
Male DJ: Wait a minute. For a concert planning meeting, what kind of things do you do?
Nishikido: The first song and how we're going to start, the contents...
Male DJ: Those things, everyone plans together?
Nishikido: Yeah. Most of that stuff is decided by us.
Male DJ: NO WAY!
Female DJ: WOW!
Male DJ: So what song to start with and that stuff, you guys decide? You guys do it all yourself!
Nishikido: Of course.
Male DJ: Wow! That's awesome! (random unimportant conversation) So, what's the first song?
Nishikido: The first song? I can't say that!
Male DJ: Why not? Why not? The first song... If you say it, only the fans listening to this will know the first song and they'll get all excited.
Nishikido: I can't say the first song.
Male DJ: You were told not to say it under any circumstance...
Nishikido: It's better off I don't say anything.
Male DJ: In the meeting, you decide on the first song and what other stuff do you do? Decide what to talk about during the MC?
Nishikido: That stuff... Ah! Well, we talked about singing something in Chinese.
Male DJ: Of course! In Chinese...
Nishikido: In Mandarin.
Male DJ: Oh yeah. Taiwan is Mandarin!
Nishikido: Yup, Mandarin.
Male DJ: You've got to study Mandarin.
Nishikido: I plan on saying "wo ai ni".
Male DJ: What "wo ai ni"?
Nishikido: "Wo ai ni" means "I love you" right? And then, oolong tea is "oolong cha~"! (the joke is that when he says it in Chinese, he says it the same as Japanese, but just with a really bad accent. :P)
Male + Female DJ: *laughs*
Nishikido: No really. "oolong cha~".
Male DJ: It's different for each person, right? You don't mean everyone's going to say that!
Nishikido: And then there's the fact there's a Chinese reading for "Nishikido Ryo" right?
Male DJ: Oh yeah, there is. Because it's kanji.
Nishikido: My reading is something-"riyan".
Male DJ: How do you read Nishikido?
Nishikido: It's something-"riyan".
Male DJ: So you've got to study your introductions from now on...
Nishikido: Not really. My real name is Nishikido Ryo.
Male DJ: But the Taiwan fans would totally be happy (if you said your name in Chinese).
Nishikido: No. This name is the name my parents gave me I don't want to change it.
Male DJ: You're not changing it! You're just using their reading of it!
Nishikido: No. Don't read it (that way). Read it as "Nishikido Ryo"!
Male DJ: The fans will call you by that, I'm pretty sure. Well, now that Kanjani8 is over, the NewS concert should keep your busy. Kanjani8's 47 prefecture tour was at the Osaka-jo Hall. September second. Are you free now?
Nishikido: Yeah.
Male DJ: What are you doing now?
Nishikido: Right now? Well, after the last interview was finished, I went and bought a guitar.
Male DJ: Went to buy a guitar? (some mumbled stuff) Before, you had guitars, right?
Nishikido: Now, I have a lot. Well, three or four guitars being a lot. I wanted to buy another.
Female DJ: Electric?
Nishikido: Electric guitar. (mentions a brand or two) Strato.
Male DJ: Strato. Even me who knows nothing has heard of that. Why do you want to increase your guitar collection?
Nishikido: I want guitars. In my house, kind of like an idiot, I have a lot of equipment.
Male DJ: You mentioned that before. You're obsessed with equipment, right?
Nishikido: Yeah, I am. And then...
*eveNishikidone busts out in laughter*
Male DJ: With that, what do you do?
Nishikido: Somehow, in the midst of explaining, I got really tired...
Female DJ: You write songs and stuff...
Nishikido: Yeah yeah! Play my guitar...
Female DJ: (says something about what he does; difficult to hear)
Nishikido: Yeah! How did you know that?
Female DJ: You said it before.
Nishikido: I have a bass. I've thought about buying a keyboard too.
Female DJ: And record right?
Nishikido: Yeah.
Male DJ: You could have a whole band at your house.
Nishikido: Yeah. We could be as loud as we want, because I have headphones.
Male DJ: It's hard on your ears though...
Nishikido: Well, it would bother the neighborhood otherwise. They'd get mad.
Male DJ: Soundproof it, naturally!
Nishikido: Soundproof? My house? No! It's a normal house.
Male DJ: Normal?
Nishikido: Normal. Except when I'm recording vocals and then...
Male DJ: Your voice is heard...
Nishikido: Yeah...
(7:59 - 8:40 --> decided not to translate word for word because it gets complicated, but they talk about recording vocals and how to make the quality of the recording better as well as different microphones used and what not; Nishikido says that he thinks that simply holding a regular microphone and singing is probably the coolest *grin*)
Male DJ: So, you don't really go out when you have a day off?
Nishikido: Not at all.
Male DJ: What do you want to do right now?
Nishikido: Right now? Hmmm... I want to go to a sauna.
Female DJ: Sauna?
Nishikido: I want to go to the sauna.
Male DJ: The clock is ticking and the mics are totally picking it up! (commenting on the fact that the conversation got quiet and dull suddenly)
Nishikido: Really? gomen! *laughs*
Male DJ: The clock is running. Well, otsukare.
Nishikido: It's nothing. Actually now, you don't know, but I've been wanting to take a shit. I've been wanting to go the entire time.
Male DJ: (says something about his posture, I think)
Female DJ: Idols shouldn't say stuff like that!
Male DJ: But idols have to take a shit too!
Nishikido: We do. Great big ones, like dragons.
Male DJ: Well, so that we can let you go take a huge shit like a dragon, please give us the song introduction.
Nishikido: yosh! Let's do the song introduction!
Male DJ: Today is News, right?
Nishikido: hai. "Hoshi o Mezashite" by NewS.
Male DJ: (something about the song... :P)
Nishikido: Yeah. This is, well... oh forget it.
Male DJ: Oh I know! This is the first song for Taipei Arena.
Nishikido: You got it? Oh whatever...
*everyone laughs*
Male DJ: That was Ryo-chan! Thank you!
Nishikido: Thanks!
And then, he can be such a boy. ;P
