5x11 review post

Wow. So for the first time in months, there's an episode that I actually want to watch again. Like right away, would turn over the record and listen to the flip side, watch again right now. Except that I'm catching up on my DVR'ed Grey's Anatomy episode ("McDreamy is being a McAss" amuses me, I'm sorry) and so will probably have to watch when this is over.

I enjoyed the ep a lot. It was nice to see some of their issues addressed and I've got nothing but sheer joy over Sam finally owning up to his rage issue. Yay, Sam! Plus Dean being a crazy crazy hero who still manages to save the day? Joy! Discussion of their various issues, the pressure Dean's under and Sam's guilt? Rapture!

Anyone else get the impression that Dean's visions of the rotting corpse people to be somehow related to Hell? I know I've got a thing about Dean's time in Hell but the wraith did say that she didn't add the crazy, she just built up what was already there.

Utterly amused about Sam wanting to talk and Dean being all REPRESS, REPRESS. Yes, love, because that is healthy. Of course, Sam wanting to emote before they've even gotten in the car was also perhaps not the smartest of moves but it was so classically them that I couldn't help but to laugh.

Also, was pleased with Dean turning inward under pressure and in his grief while Sam focused his rage outward and became aggressive. That seems quite in tune with previous characterizations for both of them and they both will need to work on it. I just hope that this level of insight on Sam's part remains for longer than one episode. The last time he had an epiphany, he didn't get to keep his new found wisdom for all that long.

Sincerely, this was a well done episode. The only moment that made me wince was Dean dropping trou in the morgue, but that's pretty well canceled out by druggy!Sam telling Dean that he still loved him. Calling him half crazy wasn't all that kind, but the fraternal affection still felt honest and has been sorely missed.

Definitely one I'll watch again. It's just a shame that there was this level of potential for the non-mytharc eps this season with the drivel that we got before. Still, if this is what the remainder of the season is like, I'll look forward to season six with a smile.
