Nov 18, 2008 23:40

Title: Suprise

Rating: pg-13

Pairing:  Spike/Joyce

Summary:  Gabrielle asked me last month for a Spike/Joyce, with Buffy seeing/catching them.  The rest was up to me. Set during season 5, before Joyce dies, but after the events of Fool of Love.

A/n:  I am sorry that you had to wait so long, hope it was worth the wait.

Spike knocked on the door.  He didn’t know why he was there; only that he didn’t want to be alone.  He couldn’t get that night with Buffy out of his mind, hearing her say that she was beneath him.  So here he stood, two bottle of Jack Daniels in hand on the front porch of Buffy’s home.  He only hoped that Buffy was out somewhere with Captain Cardboard, because who he really wanted to see was Joyce.  She understood things so well, and was so easy to talk to.  The door opened slowly, revealing Joyce, the kindest and smartest woman that he knew.

“Spike, I…” Joyce trailed off, unsure of what to say.

“Can I come in?”

“Sure.”

She stepped to the side and Spike crossed the threshold.

‘Forgive me Spike, but what brings you here?”

“I like you Joyce, you come right to the bloody point.”
He held up the two bottles and looked at her expectantly.

‘Spike, if you’re looking for Buffy, she’s not here.”
”Sodding Buffy, it’s not always about her. I came to see you Joyce.

A pleased look came over her face.  “Oh.”

“So, can I sit down?”
”Sure.”
She indicated the living room couch and he collapsed onto it.

“Spike, have you been drinking?”  The reproof was evident in her voice.  Spike sighed, knowing that he should be sober in front of a lady.

“I always drink, blood, beer, wine, its not important.  Well, blood is for me, but that’s not the bloody point.”
”So you’re drunk.”
”Just a bit.”
Joyce shrugged.  ‘At least you’re honest about it.”
Spike laughed bitterly,.  “I’m an honest vampire, run for your life.”

“Not even all humans are honest Spike.  Its good characteristic to have.”
Spike leaned in closer to Joyce and said in a stage whisper, “It helps with the pain.”

‘What kind of pain?’ asked Joyce curiously.  She’d never thought much about Spike being in pain.  This vulnerable side of him was new.

“Well, I miss Dru still, even though its been about a year, I’m still adjusting to drinking animal blood instead of human, and then you add wot happened at the Initiative.”
Joyce nodded sagely.
”I can’t really imagine, never having been a vampire myself, but it must be difficult.”

Spike nodded empathetically.

“Imagine living in fear of something that never used to be a problem.  A mere human could kill me now if they wanted.”

“Well, I can imagine the first part, before I knew vampires were really they weren’t ever a problem for me.  But, as far as humans killing you, I don’t think many know how, so you should be ok.”

“Still is a risk innit?”

Joyce shrugged.  She still wasn’t sure what Spike wanted from her.  Suddenly Spike held up the two bottles in hopes of changing the subject.

“I came to share these.”

Joyce smiled brightly.  “Well then lets share.”
She accepted a bottle from Spike, and rummaged around for some glasses.  Finding one, she poured for herself and then Spike.

“To your health,” Joyce declared and then she swallowed.

--------------------------------------

Sometime much later the two bottles were empty.  Joyce was laughing, and Spike was as well.  They were slow dancing in the living room to some song on the radio.
”Has anyone ever told you how lovely you are Joyce?”
”On occasion, been an awfully long time though.”

“Well, you’re bloody gorgeous.”

“Thanks Spike.”
She looked suddenly sad though.
”Wots wrong love?”

“Its Buffy.”

“Wot about her?”
”She’s never around Spike.  And, even when she is here, it seems like all she does is fight with Dawn.  Or worse, her mind is a million miles away.  She’s focusing so intently on being the Slayer lately, as though she has to prove herself.”
Spike shook his head in anger.  “Being the Slayer is still not as important as being a good daughter.”
”What’s wrong Spike?”

“I don’t like her treating you that way.  My mom always taught me to respect her.

Joyce smiled.

“Respect is good.”
Spike’s eyes seemed to take on a new life.  “I want to do more than just respect you Joyce.

He kissed her softly and then looked at her to see a response.  She was smiling widely.

“Do that again.”

So he did.  Spike and Joyce kissed passionately, hands exploring each other.  They didn’t even notice when the door cracked open.

“So Mom, I was thinking we haven’t spent enough time together lately so I came home for…”
Buffy looked at her mother, looked at Spike, and then ran back out the door slamming it behind her.  Spike looked at Joyce and she shook her head.

“I am an adult, I can kiss who I please.”

“That’s the spirit love.”

Spike kissed her again, and soon Buffy was banished from both their thoughts.
