So, callbacks went really well, I thought. The director and her panel of half a dozen production assistants had me read for Mrs. Fairfax, the role I was called back for, and also for Mrs. Reed, another meaty role. Before I get to the sour grapes, I must say that I was very impressed with the talent and ability of everyone I saw at callbacks including most of the children, who are all, almost certainly, destined to be stars. So, the director called me and profusely and genuinely complimented me on my singing and my excellent acting ability and wide range. She then explained to me that I was being considered for one role (but I was the second choice and the first choice hadn't decided if she would accept that role - no idea what role it is). And so, until we know about her, she offered me the role of "Servant #2." Um. OK. I decided to swallow my pride, to get in to this new group and I accepted the role. I don't feel too badly about it. I think this is going to prove to be a very professional and talented bunch of folks to work with. I also truly enjoyed doing chorus work in Secret Garden, and this show looks to have very similar musical opportunities.
