getting Lost and Found via waybackmachine part 1mmestrangeJanuary 13 2016, 22:35:23 UTC
[EDIT]
Using waybackmachine to access long dead links - bear in mind that doesn't always work because some websites do not allow themselves to be archived by said site regardless as to whether they are still alive or deader than an overturned beetle - this method should only be attempted when you still have the original url of the dead site/page
Step 1: Go to waybackmachine's homepage http://archive.org/web/ Step 2: Input the original url of the dead site/page you want to access in the correct box Step 3: Click browse history Step 4: If there are hits, you go to the last known date when the website/page was up and running.
In the case of "Lost and Found" which was originally on http://www.obscurusbooks.org/html/Ehann/LostandFound/, it was last "alive" on 5 August 2012 See this picture for reference http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.obscurusbooks.org/html/Ehann/LostandFound/ You can look at the bar graphs to determine when the site/page was online. From the bar graph, you can tell that the final date when the site was online and archived was sometime in August in 2012. Once you have determined down, scroll down and look at the calendar and click on the date that has been circled. The circle can be red or blue or some other colour, depending on your machine and browser
After you have done that, you will be at the "Lost and Found" prologue page as it was on the date mentioned above. When you are done reading the prologue, keep scrolling to the bottom until you find the option to go to Chapter 1. Click it. Assuming all chapters of the original fic were up by the aforementioned date, if you keep clicking the correct option to go to the next chapter, you should be able to read it online and copy+paste it into a word doc and so on.
