The pattering sound of raindrops falling on the glass windows woke Teddy up. He rubbed his eyes and tried to come to terms with his surroundings. The four poster bed where he lay confirmed that he was in the dormitory, and as he checked his watch, he realized it was eleven in the morning. He’d slept late, which was highly unusual for him, despite having the familiar nightmares about his parents all night. The nightmares were a frequent, almost daily occurrence but he hadn’t slept so late because of them before. He looked out of the window and wasn’t surprised to see the pouring rain amidst dark clouds in the sky. It had been raining continuously for the past couple of days, and Teddy was sure the weather would remain gloomy for a little while longer. He got out of his bed in a hurry to wash up and get dressed.

Half an hour later he stepped in to the common room to find Molly and Dominique engaged in an animated conversation. He approached them rather cautiously, and was trying to catch their conversation when Dominique looked up at him.

“Teddy!” she exclaimed furiously. “What do you think of Mark Finnigan?”

Teddy smiled at the rather unexpected question. More so because he had no idea how to answer it - he hardly knew Mark well. All he knew was that Mark Finnigan was a fifth year Gryffindor, and he was considered to be the most charming boy in his year by many of the girls. Judging from the expression on her face, Teddy wouldn’t be surprised if Dominque had slapped the boy for asking her out.

“Teddy!”

“Oh, uhh - he’s nice?” Teddy said, bemused. He took one of the armchairs next to Dominique. Molly was seated comfortably, opposite to them.

“No, he isn’t, Teddy!” Dominique said, angrily. “He’s an idiot. All girls just like him because he’s pretty.”

Teddy snorted at Dominique’s way of describing his appearance. “You mean handsome.”

“No, I mean pretty,” she replied snottily. “Haven’t you noticed a girl’s face in the boy’s body?”

“It really doesn’t matter what you think, Dominique,” Molly said, rather smugly. “As long as Victoire likes him… and I get the feeling that she’s going to say yes.”

Dominique rolled her eyes incredulously. Teddy’s heart skipped a beat then and he could feel a sinking sensation in his insides. Victoire’s going to say yes …He had no idea what Molly was talking about but he knew Victoire was being linked with that Mark Finnigan.

“She’s not into the pretty ones,” Dominique huffed out angrily. “She would probably fall like the sweet and caring type of guys.”

“Wait, wha - what’s going on?” Teddy managed to splutter, his heart pulsating at lightning speed.

“Oh, don’t you know?” Molly asked, looking surprised. “Mark wants to take Victoire to some café in Hogsmeade next weekend - a date, you know.”

Teddy froze somewhat and for quite a while, he could only feel the sinking sensation in his stomach worsen. He wasn’t sure if he could hear what Molly and Dominique were saying after that; all he could think of was Victoire - he had been so scared of losing her all this time, but the thought of losing her to someone else hadn’t occurred to him before. He had dreaded being refused and losing her as a friend when he would admit his feelings for her but now that he had decided to finally tell her … He closed his eyes hoping it would all go away - he wanted nothing more than to find Victoire and tell her what he felt about her. He had been waiting for months and when he finally thought the time had come to ask her out, there was someone else looking to do the same thing.

“Teddy? Won’t you come for lunch? Teddy - ” a voice gently called from his side.

He knew who the voice belonged to, but before he could decide whether it was his imagination or not, Teddy found himself being shaken. He gave a start and opened his eyes to look at the most adorable redhead he had ever known smiling at him.

“Vic?” he mumbled, his eyes fixed on her. “I was with Molly and Dominque, wasn’t I?”

“Yes, but they left a while ago, complaining about your lack of response,” she said, giving him a wink. “So, why are you so sleepy today?”

“I wasn’t sleeping now,” Teddy replied hurriedly. “Just thinking.”

“You mean escaping,” she teased, searching his face intently. “You’re bothered - did you have those nightmares again?”

Teddy sighed and shook his head slightly, wondering how Victoire could always figure it out. More than once he considered telling her exactly what was bothering him. He was aching to tell her it was the thought that he might be losing her to Mark Finnigan, which was so disturbing to him but every time he tried to speak he ended up brushing it aside. He had tried thinking of some flaw of Mark that he might point out to Victoire, but he knew almost nothing about that ‘pretty boy’.

“Victoire?” Teddy called, not sure if he really should tell her anything.

“Yeah?” she replied, looking at his drained face with concern.
Teddy simply couldn’t bring himself to say anything to her. He realised it wouldn’t be right to influence her decision in such a manner. What if she really did like Finnigan and whatever he said hurt her feelings?

“Nothing,” he muttered, shaking his head. “I forgot what I was going to say.”

He would just have to wait to see what Victoire chose to do when Mark asked her out. If she chose to be with him, Teddy wouldn’t get in their way, but if she said no to Finnigan, Teddy would admit his feelings to her and somewhere deep down, Teddy hoped that Dominique was right in saying that Victoire wasn’t after pretty boys and maybe, just maybe, she wouldn’t say yes to Mark.
