Dr. C_______,
I'll be working on my response paper for Friday, though today's discussion
session made it apparent that I will be working from my mind alone,
instead of being inspired by the discussion.
I am quite disappointed with the behavior of many of my fellow classmates
in the discussion setting. This entire semester has been like pulling
teeth to get anyone to say anything-- which means that more than 1 out of
every 3 class periods is completely wasted. While I'm sure their silence
is not malicious in any way, is it wrong to feel that this behavior is
rude to the extreme? In short, I would rather stay in bed than be
subjected to such apathy; it is torture to read excellent and stimulating
literature, yet treat it with a distanced sense of boredom. I don't think
I should have to feel embarrassed by my enthusiasm because of classmates
whose minds are so obviously turned to standby.

(yes, I really did send this, after attempting to lead a discussion in which a total of 3 people talked in the course of a 55 minute class period.)
