Finally Colorado!

It only took 3 years, but we finally got to Colorado.
This year not only did the weather and lack of forest fires work out, but Mom's dear friend Kathleen gave us use of her family's cabin. With one string - we had to bring Mom with us. Oh, I think we can manage that.

Will, post in sections again when I get a chance. Pictures to follow as well.

First is the pre-trip. Brian and I decided to rent a car since our cars are pretty old. Got a good deal through Hotwire. He signed up for an intermediate SUV. When we got to the rental place, paperwork was in order. Then the two people working the counter realized that our sized rental was not ready. "We are going to give you a free upgrade." So bigger SUV. We have named it The Great Pumpkin. Well, not THAT orange, but definately copper.

Trip to KC (to get Mom) was mostly uneventful. Though we will not be stopping at Bethany ever again for supper. Not only is it a hot mess with the new Kum n Go revamp, they took out about the only place that I could tolerate eating at. So eating at Camron from now on.

Then was the longest and earliest part of our trip. Driving to my mom's cousin's house in Colorado Springs. Which meant the LONG drive through the state of Kansas. For the record, I can now say that I once slept through the entire state of Nebraska and driven though the entire state of Kansas. Both are similar experiences.

Got to RT & Kitty's house in really good time. Did not realize
that the speed limit was 75 mph through most of Kansas. Good plan to stop there overnight. Fun conversation with topics ranging from what are you doing now (he hadn't seen me since I was in jr high) and stuff about books and local political scandals over supper and really wonderful almond pound cake with berries and whipped cream.

Kitty and RT made sure that we had a nice and quick breakfast. Tried something called TOE jam from a local gal. Tangerine, orange, and elderberries? And on to Manitou Springs and up to the cabin.
