I have wild blackberries in my bag.

They're not ripe yet. We ate the ripe ones.

Today we went out to the Tower Hill Botanical Gardens. It was a spur of the moment thing, and well worth it, though the gardens are not like our typical conception of Botanical Gardens. There is a 'systematic garden' well laid, with small signs and species names, a vegetable patch arranged geographically, and then...woodland.

Trails were well trodden and easy to follow, but the wild-life wasn't scarce. We saw a few birds (I have no idea what they were), several dragonflies, and two very fat chipmunks. One sat on a log right in front of us, washing his face and scratching his ears.

We also found wild blackberries, as bushes and creepers, and wild blueberries. Goldenrod was in full flower, too; I brought some home to press. It's a weed around here, but the flowers are so pretty I couldn't resist. They're teensy, tiny wee yellow flowers, in longs rows, almost like golden teeth, on tall grassy stems as high as my shoulders when left to itself.

And, come the end of the day, we were gifted with home made peach jam and fresh garden cucumbers...a very good day in all!

Pictures to come!
